Director of Nursing Job Duties:
- Enhances lives so people thrive at all times and serves in leadership role for team members to model resident service. Demonstrates respect to residents and resident’s possessions as well as respect for all staff.
- Is responsible for the overall management of the Health Services in the absence of the Administrator. Interacts with the Administrator in annual budget preparation.
- Develops, maintains, and continuously upgrades standards for nursing care practice, nursing policy and procedure manuals, and written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel.
- Develops systems to provide for orientation, training, on-going education and in-services for all nursing personnel.
- Assigns duties, oversees scheduled work, and provides annual performance evaluations on all nursing personnel, including the courtesy care nurse in Independent Living. Develops staffing standards and mechanisms for maintaining adherence to these staffing standards.
- Provides mechanisms for informing Administrator of departmental problems and condition of residents, accidents, illness, or death. Investigates and resolves complaints or refers unusual problems to the Administrator.
- Coordinates nursing services with allied services for continuity of resident care. Coordinates special care needs of residents, i.e., podiatry, dentistry, eye care, special medical needs.
- Accompanies physician on rounds and stays informed of special orders concerning residents.
- Oversees the Assistant Director of Nursing in review of doctor’s orders and medication regime for all nursing care residents.
- Orders and/or directs ordering of drugs, solutions, and equipment; maintains records of narcotics.
- Coordinates activities of the nursing department with activities of other departments.
- Maintains adherence to rules, regulations, and standards of regulatory agencies and administrative policies and procedures.
- Observes nursing care and visits residents to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed, and treatment administered in accordance with physician’s instructions.
- Participates in Family Council meetings held quarterly.
- Directs preparation and maintenance of residents’ clinical record.
- Oversees the preparation of a written care plan for nursing care residents.
- Evaluates residents for the need to transfer to a different level of care. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings in making transfer decisions.
- Meets with rehabilitation team (physical, occupational, and speech therapy) weekly for updates on residents receiving these services.
- Oversees and participates in quarterly Quality assurance and Infection Control meetings.
- Ensures that prospective residents for Epworth Villa and Susanna Wesley center receive a nursing assessment and evaluation prior to admission.
- Performs necessary medical tasks that are required to be performed by a Registered Nurse, as indicated. Responsible for destroying medications with the pharmacy consultant, in accordance with regulations.
- Should be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or is responsible for delegation of another RN to be available in his/her absence.
- Available for on-call rotation
- Works cooperatively with other staff members using a team approach to resident care.
- Practices safety at all times; applies all accident, fire safety or emergency procedures of the facility in compliance with Epworth Villa Safety Policies and Procedures.

- Oversees staffing, PPD’s, and Overtime
- Ensures compliance w/ State and Federal Regulations
- Oversees and participates in monthly in-services and Team Meetings
- Oversees RN Committees
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manages 20-25 subordinates (ADON, RNs and LPNs) who supervise a total of 60-90 employees in the nursing department.
- Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Epworth Villa’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Fluent in the English language.
- Proficient with computers.
- Compassionate and understanding when working with older adults, their families, physicians, and others.
- Maintains professional appearance, attitude, and performance.
- Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Cooperative approach to care.
- Valid Oklahoma Nursing License in good standing; Associate in Nursing or BSN.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; management experience required.
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certification
