Position Title: Director of Operations
Reports To: Executive Director / School Principal
Location: Westside Atlanta Charter School, Atlanta, Georgia
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview:
The Director of Operations at Westside Atlanta Charter School plays a critical role in ensuring
the smooth and efficient day-to-day functioning of the school. This individual is responsible for
overseeing all non-instructional aspects of the school’s operations, including facilities
management, budget and finance, human resources, compliance, technology, and school
safety. The Director of Operations works closely with the Executive Director and school
leadership team to support the school’s mission and ensure operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operations Management:
Oversee all daily operational activities of the school, ensuring the smooth
functioning of administrative, logistical, and non-instructional processes.
Ensure that the school facilities are safe, well-maintained, and meet all health
and safety standards.
Manage vendor relationships and contracts for services such as custodial work,
transportation, food services, and maintenance.
2. Budget and Finance:
Assist in the development and management of the school’s operating budget.
Monitor expenses and ensure that financial practices align with approved
budgets.
Collaborate with the finance committee to ensure accurate financial reporting and
compliance with federal and state regulations.
Oversee procurement processes, including purchasing supplies, managing
inventory, and coordinating with vendors.
3. Human Resources and Staffing:
Work closely with the Human Resources department on recruitment, hiring,
onboarding, and retention of staff.
Manage employee records and ensure compliance with all HR policies, including
background checks, certifications, and professional development tracking.
Support staff performance management systems, payroll processing, and
addressing staff concerns.
4. Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure the school is in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations,
including those related to health and safety, building codes, and public education
requirements.
Prepare and submit timely reports to the school board, charter authorizers, and
other regulatory bodies.
Manage school audits and inspections, ensuring that all operational areas meet
legal and regulatory standards.
5. Technology and Systems:
Oversee the school’s technology infrastructure, including hardware, software,
and network systems.
Ensure that classroom technology and administrative systems are operational
and meet the needs of staff and students.
Coordinate with external IT support as needed for troubleshooting and system
upgrades.
6. School Safety and Emergency Management:
Develop and implement school safety plans and protocols, including emergency
preparedness, fire drills, and crisis management.
Ensure that the school complies with all safety regulations and is equipped to
respond to emergencies.
Act as the point person for any facility-related emergencies or safety issues.
7. Leadership and Collaboration:
Serve as a key member of the school’s leadership team, contributing to the
overall strategic direction and planning of the school.
Work closely with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to ensure
that operational needs are met and aligned with educational goals.
Foster a positive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented work environment.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, educational
leadership, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in school operations, facilities management, or a related role,
preferably in a public charter school or educational setting.
Strong financial acumen and experience with budget management, procurement, and
vendor relations.
Knowledge of human resources policies, procedures, and legal compliance in an
educational environment.
Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations governing public charter schools.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate
effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in technology systems, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and
school-specific software.
