Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing the operations and services provided by the Planning and Development Department.
- Developing, directing, and overseeing planning professionals on the creation, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive urban plan/master plan, amendments to the plan, project-specific site plans, land development plans, etc.
- Leading the development of the five (5) year capital improvement (CIP) plan; initiating and managing approved CIP projects through the planning, design, and construction phases of development.
- Directing the activities of professional staff in all areas of planning, including commercial, industrial, and residential developments.
- Generating, implementing, and administering the department’s policies, objectives, and procedures.
- Ensuring the development of necessary programs or procedures for compiling and analyzing data to evaluate the potential cost/benefit of current and future development projects for the community.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Planning, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a similarly related field is required.
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience:
- A minimum of ten (10) years of management and supervisory experience in planning and design is required.
- Prior experience in dealing with Federal, State, County, and Local government agencies and officials is preferred.
- Certifications:
- Possession of at least one (1) of the following certifications: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); American Planning Association (APA); or State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE), is required.
- Skills
- Proficiency in utilizing a wide variety of software packages, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and databases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Additional Requirements
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Ability to travel locally/nationally occasionally.
