About the Job
A government entity is seeking an experienced professional to join their growing team as their new Director of Planning and Development.
Responsibilities:
- Planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing the operations and services provided by the department
- Developing, directing, and overseeing planning professionals on the creation, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive urban plan and master plan, amendments to the plan, project specific site plans, land development plans, etc.
- Leading in the development of the five (5) year capital improvement (CIP) plan
- Initiating and managing approved CIP projects through the planning, design, and construction phases of development
- Directing the activities of professional staff to include all areas of planning, inclusive of commercial, industrial, and residential developments
- Performing other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Planning, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or similarly related field
- 10+ years of management and supervisory experience in planning and design
- Possession of at least one (1) of the following certifications: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); American Planning Association (APA) or State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE)
- Demonstrated proficiency utilizing a wide variety of software packages, including Autocad, Microsoft Office. and databases
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and ability to travel locally/nationally and the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays
Desired Skills:
- Master's Degree
- Prior experience in dealing with Federal, State, County, and Local government agencies and officials
