The Director, Project Management (PM) is a critical leadership role at the Longmont site responsible for line management of the PM team and relationship management with one or more key clients. This position reports to the Vice President and General Manager, and the incumbent will be a member of the site leadership team. Coaching, training and skills development of subordinate staff are key aspects of this role.
This role requires an ability to interact with project managers and technical staff to execute complex projects and consistently translate project activities across our teams into visible project plans in a matrixed environment. The successful candidate will be able to assimilate project and risk mitigation status across the portfolio and communicate this information across the site leadership team and to key client stakeholders. This position is well suited for those that have demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills. Experience with early-stage drug development is highly preferred, including a thorough understanding of GxP.
Responsibilities:- Lead and manage project managers to integrate and align the execution of customer projects across service lines at the site.
- Ensure that the PM team generates and reviews project plans, timelines and deliverable status and promptly modifies schedules or plans as required, notifying clients and internal stakeholders of changes and effectively mitigate project risks and resolve project issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the project team manages project scope and budget and raises change orders as project scope evolves during execution.
- Develop standards, processes, key performance indicators and tools used for effective project scheduling, capacity planning and relationship management with one or more key clients.
- Recruits, trains, develops, coaches, mentors and retains Project Management staff and ensures that they are fully trained and effective in their roles.
- Participates in and supports client visits, audits and inquiries to ensure complete fulfillment of requests and interests. Acts as a primary client escalation point to resolve project issues.
- Applies business intelligence to forecast future capacity demand and revenue from existing project portfolio, including future revenue from existing projects resulting from new proposals and changes of scope not yet approved.
- Creates strong and productive relationships with clients.
- Supports business development to win new business opportunities. Involvement with proposal and change order generation as needed.

- Strong technical Project Management skills
- Adept business acumen and communication skills
- Solid understanding of pharmaceutical product development (API and Drug Product) including regulatory framework and safety requirements
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically
- Demonstrated ability to direct, motivate and inspire effective teamwork for direct reports as well as matrixed colleagues on project teams
- Flexible during times of change with the ability to navigate and resolve ambiguity
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate within cross-functional teams and to upper management

- Openly shares knowledge/information needed to achieve client and business objectives
- Demonstrated proficiency with project management tools and scheduling systems
- A Bachelor’s degree in life sciences field with referably in the life sciences with minimally 7+ years of relevant pharamceutical development experience including at least four years in management
- Experience leading and managing projects is required
- CDMO and/or CRO experience is preferred
- Advanced degree and PMP certification are preferred
