About the Job
The Director, Philanthropy will work directly with the Assistant Vice President, Philanthropy on developing and implementing strategies for securing financial support from individuals, corporations and foundations determined to have the ability to make major and principal level gifts. The incumbent will manage a portfolio of up to 100 individuals, including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts with a focus on grateful patient fundraising. This position will supervise and mentor an Assistant/Associate Director whose focus is on society level annual and major gifts.
Responsibilities:1. Set annual fundraising and metrics goals in consultation with the Assistant Vice President, Philanthropy.
2. Manage a portfolio of up to 100 donors and prospects. Determine fundraising strategies, craft proposals, and personally communicate and visit with prospects to get them more engaged with the Institute.
3. Meet metrics goals, including the completion of 80 or more meaningful donor and prospect visits per year, qualification of new major gift prospects, total fundraising, and proposals submitted.
4. Articulate the need for donor support of Kennedy Krieger Institute for both unrestricted and restricted funds and priority needs.
5. Engage select faculty across the Institute in the fundraising process with the goal of creating a culture of philanthropy within their program.
6. Work to secure support for a set of institution-wide priorities, including capital campaign, research, programmatic, and unrestricted support.
7. In partnership with the Assistant Vice President, Philanthropy, research, refine, and manage the Institute’s faculty engagement and grateful patient fundraising initiative.
8. Collaborate with other colleagues in the department to identify engagement opportunities with individuals, corporations, and foundations. Lead and execute strategies for achieving and increasing the base of support.
9. Represent Philanthropy department as a liaison with multiple Institute programs and initiatives determined in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President.
10. Work with select Board members in connection with assigned programs/departments to cultivate assigned prospects.
11. Utilize Raiser’s Edge to prioritize donor and prospects while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
12. Help lead the creation of a strategic year-round communication strategy (including the use of both online and offline methods) for current and prospective grateful patient families.
13. In collaboration with Marketing and Public Relations department, provide strategic vision and direction for specific fundraising and stewardship events, including lectureships, receptions, and third-part events.
14. Supervise, motivate, and mentor direct reports in a manner that fosters a team environment, utilizes individual strengths, and achieves the goals of the department.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Advanced degree (Master’s degree, JD, etc.) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum five years of experience in fundraising required, preferably in an academic/medical setting.
