Salary Range*: $110,000 - $125,000 annually
Facing History & Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to bigotry and hate.
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director, Principals Program to join the Growth and School Engagement team.This past spring, Facing History partnered with New York City Public Schools on its Meeting the Movement initiative to respond to an increase in bigotry and hate. The partnership with the district provided professional development for approximately 1,200 NYCPS middle and high school principals and their co-leads. The Director, Principals Program will be part of a national team developing a strategy for engaging school leaders. They will have portfolio responsibilities primarily in NYC for establishing an outreach and engagement model focused on school leadership and cultivating school leaders in NYCPS to increase their engagement with Facing History. They will also collaborate on other initiatives to engage school and district leaders, helping us establish a set of best practices to guide internal professional development and inform future opportunities for school- and district-wide partnerships across the organization.
The role will be based in New York and work with the organization’s Growth & Engagement team and with Facing History’s New York program. The Director will report to the Chief Officer of Growth & Engagement with a dotted line to the New York Program Director.
+Note: this is a grant-funded 2-year position (through June 2026) with an option to become a permanent position, based on organizational needs.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to assist with regional or national initiatives. Up to 10% travel will be required.
Who You Are: You are an experienced organizational or school leader or have experience being a teacher leader in educational settings, with a strong comfort level working with school and district leadership, in addition to a broad set of educators. You are a creative self starter, independently driven, while upbringing a strong and collaborative team spirit. You care deeply about schools and bring experience engaging with school leadership and educators to improve school climate and student achievement.

Key responsibilities include:
Relationship Management (60%)

Cultivating close contacts with school principals and educational leaders in NYCPS

Conducting regular and informal needs assessment

Documenting communications and site visits in our CRM

Orienting school leaders to appropriate FHAO resources and professional learning meeting their potential needs
Business Development or Strategic Partnerships (15%)

Collaborating with key Staff on the National Growth & Engagement team to cultivate outreach to identified strategic partners for engagement with School Principals

Representing the organization at key local conferences that offer opportunities to meet, establish and cultivate key school leaders leads
Program Delivery (25%)

Plan and Facilitate professional learning experiences that meet a school leader audience

Lead workshops using FHAO methodology and resources to a broad set of educators in site-based PD (In person & online)

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in education, strong preference for NYC school experience

Preferred experience as a former or current school district, or educational organization leader

Disciplined self-starter and independent worker with creative energy; Experience successfully working remotely strongly preferred

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills; Able to work with people at all levels of an organization and successfully build relationships virtually

Strong Project Management skills and ability to manage multiple projects and shifts priorities as needed,

Hybrid Work Model: Facing History and Ourselves operates in a hybrid work model, allowing staff flexibility in both schedules and work locations. This particular position is attached to the New York office in NYC and requires in-person and in-office work as needed, but will otherwise work from home, though you may access an office work space whenever needed. Some travel is required.
