Our client is a reputable logistics company specializing in port moves and container drayage in the greater Seattle area. They are seeking a skilled Dispatcher to perform daily dispatch operations and ensure smooth coordination between drivers, customers, and port authorities.

Position Summary:

The Dispatcher will be responsible for managing and scheduling the movement of freight between the port and customer locations. This role requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to effectively troubleshoot to maintain efficient operations. The ideal candidate will have experience with port operations, an understanding of drayage logistics, and be adept at handling the dynamic nature of port schedules.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Schedule and dispatch drivers to ensure timely pickups and deliveries of cargo to/from customers, marine terminals, rail terminals, intermodal facilities, warehouses, and other designated locations.
•    Collaborate with warehouse teams, surface transportation, customs brokerage, and international transportation departments to prioritize and schedule container dispatches.
•    Adjust dispatch plans as needed to accommodate last free day (LFD) deadlines, warehouse and terminal schedules, and port closures.
•    Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and port staff to coordinate freight movements and provide shipment updates.
•    Respond promptly to customer inquiries regarding shipment statuses, addressing service-related concerns and resolving issues in real-time.
•    Monitor and track shipments to ensure on-time performance, proactively addressing any delays or issues to maintain service levels.
•    Use company databases and websites for marine terminals, steamship lines, railroads, and chassis providers to verify container availability, book appointments, and resolve logistical challenges.

•    Accurately document all dispatch activities, including load details, driver logs, permits, and customer updates, in the company’s systems.
•    Ensure all shipments have required documentation, are accurately updated, signed for, and compliant with company policies and relevant safety and transportation regulations.
•    Research cargo statuses, container releases, and location statuses via websites and email, updating company records in a timely manner.
•    Identify and develop solutions for logistical issues, involving relevant team members as necessary to achieve resolution.
•    Optimize routes and driver assignments to maximize efficiency and reduce operational costs.
•    Obtain necessary permits for trips that require them to ensure compliance with necessary regulations.
•    Source rate quotes for drayage services upon request.

Qualifications:
•    2+ years of previous experience in dispatching or transportation coordination, especially with port and drayage moves, preferred
•    Strong familiarity with Seattle and Tacoma port schedules and regional logistics infrastructure
•    Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
•    Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
•    Proficiency in dispatch and TMS software
