AGENCY OVERVIEW:
The Baltimore City Department of Finance is seeking a self-motivated individual with a strong attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
An Office Support Specialist performs a variety of office, administrative, and keyboarding work using Microsoft Office and other proprietary software programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of proper English grammar usage, spelling, and punctuation.
• Knowledge of computer operations and software applications such as document management and word processing.
• Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations.
• Knowledge of automated office practices and procedures, including office protocol and various filing procedures.
• Knowledge of the operation and capabilities of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
• Skill in the operation of word processing and business software, including Microsoft Office Suite, to produce correspondence, charts, reports, and spreadsheets.
• Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately.
• Ability to deal courteously with customers and employees at all levels of government and to work effectively with varying temperaments, both in person and by telephone.
• Ability to locate and retrieve information from a range of sources and to compile information in report form.
• Ability to provide direction and guidance to others.
