OVERVIEW:
In this role, you will be an important member of the tax team, responsible for managing federal, state and local planning initiatives and audits, as well as supporting ESG initiatives with a tax focus. You will play a key role in gathering and analyzing data, often coordinating across the organization and externally to understand and correctly interpret data, quantify tax impacts and provide recommendations. This role is largely project-based and will give the candidate experience in corporate (tax), leading complex projects, managing external partner relationships, and achieving strategic tax objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Partner with business segments and functions to obtain information necessary to complete federal and state tax technical calculations and/or respond to audit inquiries
- Collect and analyze financial data, model and calculate tax impacts and recommend solutions based on findings
- Effectively manage third parties: provide data, maintain project timelines and review work product to ensure it aligns with the Company’s facts
- Maintain complete and accurate records and workpapers for all projects completed to support the tax filings, including drafting memoranda to document conclusions and processes
- Remain current on ESG issues, including interpreting and providing guidance on any new tax laws and the impact to General Mills to a non-finance audience
- Support proper design, operation and maintenance of SOX controls for the Tax function
- Support tax provision process, including researching tax accounting technical issues, documenting tax positions and documentation/analysis of tax attributes
- Navigate the organization and systems; partner with Tax function to deliver on internal and external reporting needs
- Support state-related advocacy and policy efforts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in tax, accounting, economics, or related fields
- 5-7 years minimum of combined public accounting, corporate or law firm experience plus experience with ESG tax
- Prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline focused, dynamic environment
- Synthesize many data sources to provide meaningful analysis and identify recommendations
- Demonstrate ability to influence stakeholders via effective written and verbal communication
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Work well on a team and build effective relationships across all levels of the organization
- Execute fiduciary responsibility via transparent communication of risk & opportunities
- Experience with Microsoft Office Tools
- Appetite for professional growth and willingness to develop project-specific tax technical skills
- Willingness to travel about 10% of the time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree - MBA, MBT, JD, LLM
- CPA, CFA or other certifications
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP principles
- Working knowledge of SAP
ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- We are open to remote candidates with travel based on business needs. Relocation would not be provided for this role.
