ABOUT HARBOR HOUSE OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
Harbor House of Central Florida is dedicated to preventing and eliminating domestic violence through critical life-saving services, best practice implementations, and community education. We provide emergency shelter, court injunctions, and a domestic abuse hotline, along with holistic wrap-around services such as a licensed daycare and kennel to ensure all family members, including pets, are safe and can heal together.
JOB SUMMARY
The Domestic Violence Advocate - Housing Coordinator is responsible for the successful implementation of the Emergency Shelter Supportive Housing and Economic Justice Program, tracking the number of survivors receiving services and the type of services provided. You will provide direct services to survivors seeking economic sustainability and supportive housing.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOUSING COORDINATOR
As a Domestic Violence Housing Coordinator, you will:
- Assist survivors of domestic violence in living in our emergency shelter in identifying and securing affordable housing.
- Implement an economic empowerment program, including financial literacy, economic advocacy, Earned Income Tax Credits awareness, microloans, micro-enterprises, matched savings/Individual Development Accounts programs, employment assistance, and credit counseling.
- Facilitate linkages with and make referrals to community service providers to accomplish service plan goals.
- Conduct follow-up meetings with survivors to assess progress and identify further assistance needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation and compile statistical data to ensure compliance with funding sources.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience within the domestic violence movement, or a high school/equivalency diploma and four years of experience within the battered women's movement.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of case management or advocacy experience in a domestic violence program, demonstrating initiative and compassion when working with others. 1-3 years of financial, credit, and/or employment counseling experience preferred. Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of Homelessness, HUD and Rapid ReHousing
- Ability to develop and deliver financial literacy programs
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills
- Proficiency in basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database software
- Certification: Ability to complete CORE competency training within 30 days of hire
- Driver's License: Valid Florida driver's license and insurable driving record
- Language: The ability to read, write, and speak fluently in both English and Spanish or Creole is preferred.
