Position Summary:
The incumbent provides direct supervision to dosimetrists and specialists with external beam radiation treatment planning (e.g. External Beam or Brachytherapy). May also include supervision of skilled technical employees and support staff. Works closely with the Medical Center administration and clinic physicians to ensure seamless operation between all activities of the School of Medicine and Medical Center related to directing and evaluating patient care activities, assisting with teaching and research, managing clinical resources, developing and administering operational & capital budgets, and developing & monitoring organizational policy / procedures. As needed, will perform the full range of dosimetry procedures and complex specialized procedures.
Essential Job Functions:

- Supervises dosimetrists and treatment staff verifying technical soundness and suitability of radiation treatment plans. Ensures treatments conform to University and department policy, regulatory requirements and published practices. Coordinates patient treatments and reviews treatment schedules to ensure optimal workflow and appropriate use of personnel. Ensures coordination and timely completion of treatment plans. Provides insight on quality assurance issues. Monitors staff utilization and productivity. 10%
- MGMT: Ensures compliance with all applicable policies/procedures, laws, regulatory agency requirements, Joint Commission standards and HRSA standards if applicable, codes of practice, and organizational work standards (service, quality and safety standards). Effectively develops unit/department operational policies and procedures. Maintains records related to operations and services that are complete, accurate, available and in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. 15%
- MGMT: Develops and maintains quality improvement activities and recommends / implements changes as appropriate. Assumes responsibility for implementing programs to positively affect patient satisfaction and quality assurance data, such as meaningful visit, patient access, effective patient communications, satisfaction survey scores, etc. Participates in the collection and evaluation of quality improvement data. Monitors internal controls and seeks to resolve issues in a timely manner. 15%
- FIN: Independently monitors and analyzes financial performance, identifying developing trends in the utilization of space, supplies, staff and / or other resources to ensure the financial success of the department. Effectively flexes staffing to balance budget and units of service. Independently analyzes the usage of funds by source and implements solutions or alternatives that could potentially reduce the overall operating expenses. 20%
- Creates an engaged work force and safe work environment for assigned staff. Effectively allocates and evaluates department work, determines required staffing levels, and provides leadership and follow through to ensure that services are delivered in a timely, efficient manner. Identifies and implements initiatives aimed at improving engagement and follows through on developmental opportunities. Accepts responsibility for decisions and effective communication. Provides effective and timely human resources management including hiring, firing, training / compliance, annual performance evaluations, and corrective action 25%
- Assists in the design and implementation of quality improvement and compliance initiatives. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Works with dosimetrists and treatment staff to improve quality and consistency of external beam treatments. Actively participates in the development and implementation of strategic plans, operational goals and objectives, and business initiatives. Demonstrates strategic thinking in planning, implementing and evaluating programs tied to future growth of the clinical operations. Develops and executes short- and long-term goals for the department consistent with established Medical Center goals and objectives. 15%

Required Qualifications:
- Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical radiation treatment concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise and counsel
- Strong analytical skills to collect and analyze operational data
- Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
- Must have five (5) years of relevant experience
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
- Medical dosimetry certification
- Knowledge of the budgetary process including establishing, maintaining and reporting income, expenses and variances
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in performing external beam radiation treatments and treatment planning
- Bachelors' degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to successfully identify priorities while managing multiple assignments simultaneously
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous supervisory or practice management experience
- Knowledge of the Orange County healthcare market
- Knowledge of financial and accounting concepts and practices especially as relates to practice management
- Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
- Experience working in a UC and/or union environment
