About the Job
A Drill Locater operates various equipment in conjunction with locating duties. i.e. Directional Drill locating, Hydrovac, Excavator, etc. They are responsible for knowing utility color codes to determine utility paths via locate paint or locate flags of utility placement and possess the ability to “read the job layout” to include looking for non-located utilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Communicate with drill operator to assure safe and efficient operation of the drill with continued updates on the drill head location.
- Locate/operate, trench, place duct, pull cable, and direct bury main-line and drops. Locate & verify all utilities before construction using multiple methods.
- Read blueprints and understand utility placement standards
- Maintain a professional demeanor with employees, customer and public always
- Ensuring company assets (vehicles, equipment, tools, etc.) are properly and continuously maintained in good repair and secured in a safe manner.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-5 years of experience locating for a directional drill
- A valid CDL class A license is required or ability to acquire within 90 days
- We will assist in obtaining a CDL
- A demonstrated working knowledge of telecommunications
- Full understanding of utility colors and meanings
- Ability to locate drilling in both standard and high-risk areas, such as areas with live utilities
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment
- Knowledge of Underground Construction practices
- Able to use Ditch Witch locating equipment
