Early Intervention is an integrated developmental service available to families of children from birth to age three consisting of home visits, center-based visits, assessments, parent-child groups, parent support groups, service coordination, referral and transition assistance. Services are provided by a team of professionals representing a variety of disciplines, such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers and developmental specialists.
Early Intervention (EI) services are for: (a) children with identified disabilities like Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, and Autism; (b) those with developmental delays, as in walking or speaking; or (c) those at risk for delays in development due to risk factors related to birth and/or environmental circumstances.
Job Summary: The Early Childhood Educator provides clinically appropriate developmental assessments, consultations, and therapies to child and families enrolled in the program.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assesses development and clinical needs of clients in the areas of cognition, play skills, social emotional skills and overall infant toddler maturation.
- Develops a clinical plan of action for the client using early intervention assessment tools, evidence based best practices, and information gathered from the EI team
- Provides early intervention services to clients and their families by coaching caregivers on effective and individualized strategies and methods for teaching their child and modeling appropriate strategies as needed.
- Coordinates information on community resources available to families and either assists families in obtaining these or consults with team members actively linking with other agency resources and programs in which families may participate.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Early Intervention, Early Childhood Development, Infant Toddler Development, or Special Education required, Master's preferred
- Experience working with children under the age of 5
- Strong organizational skills
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Recognition of importance of and respect for confidentiality
