Position Title: EC Teacher
Salary: $55,000 - $62,000
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Work Schedule: Full Time – 10 Month
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary
The EC Teacher position is responsible for coaching, motivating, and instructing special education high school students within the company model. Attention is given to each student’s Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) and Individual Educational Plan (IEP). The EC teacher collaborates with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure that the instructional and social-emotional needs of the special education student are met. The EC teacher also works with the school’s Administrators to ensure that all EC paperwork and reporting requirements are in compliance with national, state, and district regulations and serves to facilitate and ensure compliance with state, district, and company Response to Intervention (RtI) policies.

- Provide a learning environment that is team-oriented, student-centered, and aligned with the company’s and special education student’s academic goals and specified IEP objectives.
- Provide direction and leadership within the school and classroom by displaying deep and effective working knowledge of the needs of the special education student and demonstrating best practices related to teaching, supporting, providing modifications, interventions, and instructional techniques in content area text.
- Maintain, disaggregate, and provide progress monitoring reports, IEP compliance, attendance and behavioral records, academic grades, and other student records as required by national and state regulatory guidelines as well as company policy and procedures.
- Maintains IEPs, Quarterly Reports, Progress Monitoring for caseload.
- Collaborates with regular education teachers to monitor student progress and compliance (including student compliance issues, withdrawals, etc.).
- Act as counselor, advisor, facilitator, advocate, and coach to support, mentor, and guide the EC students through their IGP and IEP.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with peers to develop, plan, and implement best educational practices based upon the individual academic and/or behavioral needs of the student that are aligned with IEP and company goals.
- Participate in professional development courses or activities to maintain appropriate certification or credentials based on position.
- Assist in all initiatives to ensure school meets defined FTE enrollment and attendance goals.
- Arrange for and assist with training for inclusionary practices.
- Assist with planning for classroom and testing accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, which are aligned in accordance with company policy and procedures to ensure educational goals are achieved.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Knowledge of the principles of secondary education.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional theory.
- Knowledge, skills, and ability to analyze and use data to drive program improvement.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, the community, and administrative staff. Sensitivity to corporate needs, employee goodwill, and the public image, as unique situations present themselves.
- Knowledge, skills, and ability to prioritize effectively, time management & organizational skills.
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university.
- EC Teacher’s Certification K-12.
- Minimum one (1) year experience.
Education and Experience Preferred
- Previous experience and/or the ability to work with over age and at-risk youth.

Work Environment
- Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
Physical Demands
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.
- Work occurs both indoors and outdoors.
- Light physical activity required, with frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
Travel Required
- 25% travel required.
