POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of a Physician or RN, assists in providing patient care and performs selected treatments and procedures. Updates RN with timely information regarding status of patient in compliance with Patient Services Department policy and other regulatory agency requirements. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:

High School Graduate
Must provide copy of diploma/degree for highest level of education obtained.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Minimum:
Certification as a Nursing Assistant, EMT, Completion of fundamentals of nursing course and be registered on the Illinois Department of Health Registry or a nurse who has complete RN or LPN training in another country, or RMA, AAMA, CCMA or NCCT certification.
Annual CPR certification.
Preferred:
Basic EKG and/or Phlebotomy.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
•
Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
•
Good interpersonal, organizational and critical decision-making skills.
•
Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
•
Basic arithmetic skills.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
•
Provides a variety of patient care procedures, under the direction of an RN: taking vital signs; completing EKGs; performing phlebotomy; transporting patients, administrating enemas; performing accu checks; completing wound care, which may include application of an antibiotic on burn ointment.
•
Performs selected skills specific to the ED (requires annual education and/or skills verification).
•
Clearly and accurately documents and records observed patient information and care provided.
•
Implements and assists patient with physical therapy functions including crutch walking, lifting, transferring, turning and positioning of patients utilizing proper body mechanics and escorting them to other areas as directed by the primary/charge nurse.
•
Maintains, cleans and troubleshoots a variety of department equipment.
•
Replenishes supplies and drugs from other departments as needed.
•
Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.
