POSITION TITLE: Education Manager STATUS: Exempt, FT GRADE: 5
DEPT: Early Childhood Services PROGRAM: Head Start SALARY: $70K/yr
REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Education Director SUPERVISES: Teacher Coaches, Teachers
SUMMARY: Ensures high instructional and environmental quality of programming at all partner childcare provider sites
COLLABORATES WITH: Early Childhood Education team and Family Services team to ensure quality early care and education programming is offered to all children and families in the program.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with partner childcare providers and staff to establish plans and procedures to ensure the safety and security of children
- Works with Teacher coaches to evaluate the need of each site and devise a training strategy
- Coordinates relevant trainings needed and recommend to Operations and Quality Manager
- Monitors and reviews the professional development plans and progress of trainees
- Ensures the statutory training requirements are met
- Develops, coordinates and presents training and development programs for all employees
- Hires, trains, and monitors teacher coaches
- Reviews teacher coach reports on weekly visits to centers and provides guidance and consultation on effective coaching
- Provides support to partners to ensure teacher qualifications are met.
10) Develops a system for centers to request qualified substitute teachers as needed and to fill requisitions for coverage
11) Recruits, trains and oversees the work of disabilities/mental health specialist
12) Ensures each childcare provider partner works with social service agencies to recruit and meet required disabilities enrollment per HS standards
13) Leverages other YWCA programs to meet the needs of all partner providers to include parent nights, employment services and wellness
14) Assists and supports the recruitment and screening of teachers for partner providers
Coordinates training and technical assistance efforts with the Child Care Resource and Referrals’ Quality team.
NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in administrative and program meetings, as appropriate. Participate in YWCA events and activities to promote the overall mission and vision of the agency
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Other duties outside of the responsibilities of the position may be assigned, whether for a project, special needs task or other assignment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
¨ Minimum of three years of preschool management experience
¨ Proficient in FCCERS, ITERS, and ExceleRate Illinois Quality measures
¨ Experience in human services program management, including program planning, operations & evaluation, and the use of management information systems
¨ Ability to pass a health examination and a criminal background check
¨ A demonstrated ability to work independently, while prioritizing and managing multiple assignments simultaneously as needed
¨ Must be able to travel
¨ Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
¨ Well-developed problem-solving, communication skills
¨ Excellent presentation skills incorporating all strategies for all learning areas
¨ Ability to adapt to change
¨ Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from various education, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in early childhood education or a Bachelor’s or advanced degree and equivalent coursework in early childhood education with early education teaching experience.
CERTIFICATION(s) REQUIRED: Must become an ITN trainer within 1 year of employment with agency. Must be trained and be proficient in all quality measures for the state of Illinois and Head Start including but not limited to ITERS, FCCERS, ECE Level 1, BAS and PAS

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes offices; members and visitors may visit with children. The noise level is usually moderate. Movement requirements include walking, stooping or kneeling. There may be a need to reach, lift or move objects, such as packages, supplies and computers. Normal (or corrected) vision range; ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols are necessary to the work, which may require close viewing. Occasionally may need to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Communication needs include seeing, hearing and speaking. While in the office, there will be periods of sitting, holding a telephone and using computers. Reasonable accommodations will be made for an incumbent to meet the essential responsibilities of the position.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm this position may require work on some evenings and weekends. Schedule can vary depending on the needs of the agency.
