Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $19.46 to $20.57 and may commensurate with experience.
SOME’s family housing includes playgrounds and community spaces for the enrichment of the children and adults in residence. Children living in our family services programs attend SOME Place for Kids, after-school tutoring, and an enrichment program that supports their educational and social development needs.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a part-time after-school Education Program Assistant for our Family Services program at Griffin House/Family Services Location in Washington, DC.
Position Description: The Education Program Assistant provides assistance with youth programming and educational activities for children in Family Housing. This role involves assisting in the planning, coordination, and implementation of educational programs that foster learning and development in a safe and nurturing environment
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 4:00 pm- 8:00 pm (20 hours/week), on-site
Qualifications:
Required: HS/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in education or social services; Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting; Passion for working with children and supporting their development.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to at-risk students and low-income families; Valid Driver's License.
Required License/Certification: CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants; Food Handler's License is preferred and must be obtained in the first month of employment

Expected Contributions: Youth Programming
- Lead youth through SOME Place for Kids activities in after-school programs (approx. ages 5-13)
- Collaborate with Youth Services Coordinator and staff to develop and implement programs
- Assist in developing communications to promote programs
- Communicate with students and parents to collect report cards, collect permission slips, etc.
- Purchase supplies, as needed
- Assist in summer programs, as needed
- Assist with tutoring activities for children
- Assist volunteers in learning program activities
- Develop monthly volunteer reports
- Develop monthly activities calendar
- Assist with administrative issues, as needed
- Provide oversight and supervision of youth during SPFK programming
- Input SPFK attendance records into CRM
- Plan, develop and implement youth programs using approved educational resources
