Position Overview: The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District is seeking full-time Special Education Educational Assistants (EAs) for our Franklin Fieldhouse and Bridges program for the 2024-2025 school year. This position reports on all student days, with additional days for professional development, as indicated on the EA calendar.
Certification Requirement: Candidates must have or be able to obtain a Wisconsin DPI-issued Special Education Program Aide license for the 2024-2025 school year.
Job Summary: The Special Education Educational Assistant will provide direct support to students and staff across various learning environments. Responsibilities include assisting students with special needs, facilitating their inclusion in school activities, and collaborating with teachers to enhance the learning experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision and support to students in both classroom and non-classroom settings.
- Assist with delegated health care procedures, such as gastrostomy (GT) tube feedings, under the supervision of the district nurse.
- Support therapy services by helping transfer students in and out of specialized equipment (if hired after 1994).
- Assist with lunchroom setup and specialized feedings as needed.
- Provide personal care for students, including diapering, catheterization, colostomy care, and other hygiene-related tasks that may involve bodily fluids.
- Help students and staff with academic testing.
- Implement teacher-developed educational plans by working with individual students, small groups, and by circulating within the classroom.
Skills and Abilities:
- Work effectively with students who have mild to severe physical, emotional, or cognitive special needs.
- Manage difficult student behaviors with patience and professionalism.
- Assist students with medical maintenance and personal hygiene needs.
- Safely assist students with mobility throughout the building.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and other staff members.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow district guidelines.
- Collaborate with teachers and work independently with minimal supervision.

- Demonstrate empathy, patience, and the ability to handle physically and emotionally demanding students and situations.
- Interact appropriately with a diverse student population.
- Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a supportive work environment.
- Follow teacher direction and assist in motivating students' personal growth and self-concept development.
- Prioritize multiple tasks effectively, especially under time constraints.
Qualifications:
- Must have completed two years of post-secondary education (48 credits) or hold an associate's degree.
- Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification (training provided by the District).
