Job Summary:
- The EEG Tech functions as a resource person to physicians and their staff, family members and hospital staff. Prepare patients and performs Electroencephalograms, Ambulatory EEG's, BAER's, VEP and other tests within their scope of practice.
- Perform routine diagnostic studies and services.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures in accordance with the MTF policies.
- Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
- Modify or adjust the recording strategy and/or instrument parameters based on the technologist's evaluation of recorded data to ensure a complete, comprehensive and technically satisfactory study.
- Process studies and submit to the requesting physician.
- Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with the established policy at the place of performance.
- As directed, perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and MTF policies.
- Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.
- Reviewing and dispositioning consultation request.
- Scheduling patients.
- Maintaining equipment (in collaboration with the vendor and with the facility's medical maintenance section) and electrodes.
- Educating patients regarding the studies performed (preparing patients for procedures).
- Performing urgent and expedited EEG studies as warranted (in addition to routine studies) to include prolonged EEG recordings.
- Performing EEG and/or evoked potentials in the inpatient and outpatient settings (to include the NICU, PICU, and ICU environments).
- Maintaining appropriate continuing medical education credits to maintain EEG certification.
- Completed certification as an EEG Tech
- Certified by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists
- Must have 1 year of qualifying experience.
- BLS through American Heart Association only
