Who You AreĀ
The EH&S Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all environmental health and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies at a pet food manufacturing facility. The role includes conducting safety audits, risk assessments, training employees, and fostering a culture of safety across the facility. The EH&S Manager will work closely with other departments to drive continuous improvement in safety performance and promote sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- EH&S Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other relevant regulations.
- Develop and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures specific to the pet food manufacturing environment.
- Lead internal and external safety audits and inspections, ensuring timely corrective actions are taken.
- Stay current on changes in health and safety laws and regulations, advising the management team on necessary actions.
- Risk Management:
- Conduct regular risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHA) to identify and mitigate potential safety and environmental hazards.
- Manage incident reporting, root cause analysis, and follow-up on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure appropriate safety and emergency response protocols are in place and practiced regularly.
- Employee Training and Engagement:
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees and contractors, ensuring proper understanding of safety procedures, equipment use, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, safety committees, and recognition programs.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to supervisors and employees on safety and environmental best practices.
- Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives:
- Oversee waste management, recycling, water conservation, and energy efficiency programs, with a focus on reducing the facility's environmental footprint.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental permits and regulations, such as air emissions and wastewater discharge.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Lead emergency response planning, including coordination with local emergency services and development of evacuation, spill response, and fire protection plans.
- Conduct regular drills and ensure emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of safety training, incidents, audits, and inspections.
- Prepare reports on safety metrics and environmental performance for leadership and regulatory agencies.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify areas for improvement in EH&S performance and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by utilizing data-driven decision-making and lean manufacturing principles.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and wear necessary PPE (personal protective equipment) as required.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, which may involve physical activity.
