EHR Systems Analyst - HHSC East Hawaii Region

Job Description

The East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation is a leading healthcare provider on the Big Island of Hawaii dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care. We are currently undertaking a significant initiative to implement Epic, a top-tier electronic health record (EHR) system, across our network. To support this endeavor, East Hawaii Medical Group is hiring highly skilled EHR Systems Analysts to join our dynamic team.

Job Summary: We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented EHR Systems Analysts to join our dynamic healthcare IT team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in building, maintaining, and optimizing our Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This position involves collaborating with clinical, provider, billing, and operational teams to enhance workflows, ensure system integrity, and support the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery.

Location: In-person at Hilo Benioff Medical Center

Relocation assistance is available for an incumbent who moves to the Hilo area to accept this position.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Epic Implementation:
   • Lead the implementation of the Epic applications ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
   • Participate in system design, configuration, and testing to ensure EHR applications meet clinical and operational needs.
   • Collaborate with Epic representatives, IT staff, clinicians, physicians, and leadership to develop and execute project plans.
   • Assist with the implementation of associated (non-Epic) EHR applications as assigned.
2. System Analysis and Support:
   • Analyze, design, implement, and support Epic systems and applications.
   • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Epic applications.
   • Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and upgrades.
3. Training and Documentation:
   • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs on the Epic system, ensuring proficiency in its use and adherence to Epic’s best practices. 
   • Provide continuous support to end-users on Epic applications.  
   • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including system configurations, process workflows, and training materials.
   • Generate and analyze reports to monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement.
4. Project Management:
   • Lead and participate in project planning, implementation, and post-implementation support.
   • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
5. Compliance and Security:
   • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and other data protection standards.
   • Implement and monitor security protocols to safeguard patient information.
6. System Optimization:
   • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to understand workflow requirements.
   • Identify opportunities for system optimization and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and patient care.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
   • Act as a liaison when needed to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
   • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and committees to represent Epic applications in system-related discussions.
   • Work with providers to develop and revise Epic workflows and ordering processes. 

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree on a year-for-year basis.
• Certification or experience in at least one of the following Epic applications preferred:
  • EpicCare Inpatient 
  • Beaker Pathology 
  • EpicCare Ambulatory 
  • Willow Inpatient Inventory Supply Tracking 
  • Grand Central Patient Flow 
  • Beacon Oncology 
  • Anesthesia 
  • Radiant Radiology 
  • Cupid Cardiology
  • Cadence, Prelude, Cheers 
  • Resolute Hospital Billing, Claims & Remittance
  • Resolute Outpatient Billing, Claims & Remittance; RHC billing experience preferred (2)
  • HIM 
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, with specific experience in EHR implementation and optimization preferred. Candidates who have master's or doctoral degrees may substitute this education for one year of required healthcare experience.
• Skills:
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows or billing workflows.

  • Proficiency in project management and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Company Description

East Hawaii Medical Group is the East Hawaii Region's diverse provider group of over 100 physicians and advanced practice providers, representing various specialties in our hospitals and outpatient clinics. Our group is also responsible for managing the Hawaii Island Family Medicine Residency program that trains new family medicine physicians.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
