POSITION OVERVIEW
As an EHS Engineer, the ideal candidate will be responsible for driving the site Environmental Health and Safety performance. This role requires an individual who possesses EHS regulatory knowledge, technical expertise, and a continuous improvement leadership mindset. This individual should be solution-based, enjoy technical hands-on work, can work with diverse cross-functional teams, and collaborating with site technical, operations and maintenance personnel concerning EHS related issues.
TARGETED OUTCOMES
- Implement strong EHS improvement strategies to achieve regulatory requirements, advance the sites procedure development and drive a reduction of EHS related risk.
- Review EHS regulations to determine applicability and strategic path forward, including development and modification of programs, projects, and documentation.
- In partnership with stakeholders, identify the key EHS risk for the site and develop a multi-functional plan to drive resolution through employee engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the development, implementation and improvement of the Greenwood site EHS programs, to ensure compliance.
- Serves as a liaison between EHS and operations/maintenance to provide EHS support and advice. This will include developing and delivering EHS training, assisting in incident investigations, and implementing EHS improvements.
- Develops and initiates site EHS initiatives to ensure meeting established Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP).
- Coordinates and provides general support to site security activities including developing and implementing site security programs and systems, monitoring site security issues and problems.
- Develops short and long-term strategies to achieve an injury/incident free workplace.
- Drives site's continued development of the EHS process, including regular coaching and engagement of front-line supervision, leadership, and hourly personnel.
- Coordinate contractor and new hire safety programs.
- Assists in incident investigations and root cause determinations.
- Assist in auditing the pre-startup safety reviews and the MOC process.
- Responsible for managing assigned elements of the site’s ESSH work processes, ensuring compliance with all associated regulations.
- Develop, implement, and track leading and lagging measures of Environmental performance for the site.
- Ensure environmental input is provided for all management of change (MOC) requests within the facility, while driving site-wide risk mitigation for all environmental risk on-site.
- Ensure the site’s RCRA, Wastewater, and waste regulatory requirements are completed in a timely manner. Assist in all other areas of Environmental as needed (Title V, Tier II, SARA, ASTs, etc.)
- Maintain environmental compliance with all current Federal, State, and local standards and understand future possible regulatory changes in OSHA, EPA and DHEC.
TEAM
- Reports to: EHS Manager
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- B. S. Engineering or Occupational Health & Safety / Environmental.
- 5 - 8 years of experience in occupational health, safety and environmental.
- 3+ years EHS experience in a manufacturing operation, preferably chemical manufacturing.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other certifications are desired.
- Prior experience in and the demonstrated ability to lead teams in Emergency Response situations are highly desired.
