Job Summary
We are seeking an EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) Intern to join our team. The EHS Intern will assist with various environmental, health, and safety programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations, promote the Quaker Houghton "Protect Our Planet" initiative, and be a key participant in our "Path to Zero" injuries mission. This role will be a great opportunity to learn the fundamental responsibilities within the EHS field and working in an industrial environment. As a member of the EHS team, you will work with and learn from an experienced, diverse group of committed professionals that have built a program around the most stringent industry standards and have achieved best-in-class safety performance.
What will you do
Support the EHS team in meeting 2024 objectives. Work will be a combination of specific project work along with day-to-day responsibilities.
- Projects could include:
- Participate in the developing, executing, and tracking Environmental Sustainability initiatives.
- Support Process Safety initiatives: developing critical Process Safety information (PSI), validating Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's), documenting critical process deviations,
- Defining Lockout/Tagout requirements and scripting equipment specific LOTO procedures,
- Expanding the Job Task Risk Analysis program and working with employees in training & developing job specific JTRA's,
- Through the JTRA program, identify opportunities to improve the ergonomics for high-risk activities via recognized assessment tools,
- Work with site leaders on developing and executing EHS Site Improvement Plans (SIP's),
- Expand functional capabilities of new EHS management system, DevonWay,
- Day to day responsibilities may include:
- Assist in developing and delivering safety training programs for employees,
- Learn, lead, participate in, and document incident investigations, root cause analysis, and report out of corrective/preventive ac
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) or Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR),
- Routine inspections, compliance assessments, follow-up on outstanding EHS compliance audit findings,
- Collecting, summarizing, and reporting of EHS leading/lagging metrics.
What do we look for
- Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, engineering, or technical related field.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or work experience in EHS or related field.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Familiarity with environmental sustainability concepts
- Completed course in Statistics
