About the role
We are looking to add an EHS Specialist to our growing Safety Department. As an EHS Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting EC and Operations Departments with safety projects and improvements. This position will directly support our Safety Department at our Corsicana location.
Essential Functions
- Conduct safety walks and inspections before and during each project to analyze safety risks.
- Monitor daily construction activities for compliance with OSHA and company rules/policies.
- Educate contractor and field personnel on safety standards and expectations as well as the safe operation of machinery.
- Facilitate implementation of safe work techniques and effective safety methods and processes; Perform safety drills with team as needed to increase and improve safety awareness.
- Provide recommendations for improving safety within the workplace.
- Assist with investigation of incidents and near-misses that occur onsite and help to identify their root cause.
- Identify and correct safety deficiencies in the field.
- Attend contractor safety meetings, daily toolbox, weekly and monthly safety meetings.
- Conduct regular safety inspections to identify workplace hazards and implement hazard. controls before accidents occur. Identify if employees are using unsafe practices and whether they may need more training.
- Assist with annual emergency evacuation drills.
- Have the right to stop work if safety guidelines are not properly followed.
- Assist to maintain safety and training documentation for employees and contractors.
- Assist EPC and operations departments with safety projects and improvements.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Formal safety training including OSHA 510, 511 certifications, OSHA 30, Hazwoper 40, is a plus
- Spanish a plus
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels in a construction environment.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- PC literate to include proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- 3-5 years experience as Safety Specialist or Safety Coordinator
