Description:This person will serve as the site Environmental, Health and Safety Supervisor for Pegasus Aviation Services, a Part 145 aviation service provider and ground handling company that oversees airframe repair, heavy and light equipment maintenance and repair, transportation and fleet services and fuel services.
Works with the Local management team to develop, implement, and maintain company policies adhering to multiple federal entities (FAA, DOT, State, EPA, TSA and FDA), local, state and Federal environmental, health and safety regulations. Involved in the design and development of work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly. Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating health, safety, and environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Serves as contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies, and airport safety, health, and environmental staff.
This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Operations.
Responsibilities:- Responsible for the organization’s environmental, health and safety programs for assuring compliance with company policies, carrier compliance, OSHA, EPA, FAA, DOT, Alaska, and other applicable regulations.
- Proactively identify health, safety, and environmental hazards and implement effective controls to minimize risks.
- Conduct audit and inspections of the operation to evaluate the safety and adherence to policies implemented by the company and document the findings and corrective actions.
- Assist in developing and providing training to company staff on issues related to health, safety, and the environment (bloodborne pathogens, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, defensive driving, powered industrial trucks, personal protective equipment, etc.)
- Manage environmental programs such as maintaining permits (ANC Airport SWPPP and SPCC), ensuring compliance and managing hazardous waste collection and satellite accumulation areas.
- Assist management with selecting and maintaining all equipment for health, safety, and environmental protection (PPE, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, ladders, jacks and jack-stands)
- Respond to incidents related to health, safety, and the environment and notify all pertinent company and customer staff.
- Investigates incidents and report findings to program management causes and actions to take to prevent reoccurrences.
- Interface with subcontractors on matters related to environmental, health and safety.
- Assists management with the driver training and licensing programs to ensure safe and effective operation of all project vehicles.
- Generate and submit reports related to health, safety, and environmental metrics and systems as required by management or regulation.
- Maintain all records related to safety, health, and environmental protection and as required by programs, policy, regulation, or contract clauses.
- Utilize incident reporting and other health, safety, and environmental systems as required by the company.
- Manage employee and stakeholder engagement in the site health, safety, and environmental programs (safety committee, safety awareness program).
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- BA/BS degree in related field is preferred though equivalent experience may be substituted.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in safety, health, and environmental programs
- An expert understanding of the health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to the site
- Successfully complete a fingerprint-based, criminal history records check, security training and pre-employment drug test
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualification :
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- HAZWOPER
- OSHA 30 or greater
- Experience managing and SMS system.
- BLS/ CPR certification
Material & Equipment Directly Used:
- Operates a computer and utilizes software programs, spreadsheets and databases. Drive vehicle as needed to access and review work areas.
- Demonstrates and uses a variety of personal protective equipment and equipment used in protection of safety, health, and the environment.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
Work is conducted outdoors and, in an office, or shop environment as needed to perform assigned duties. Work may require light lifting up to 50 lbs.; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting. and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Must be able to differentiate the nature of objects by color and communicate through written and telecommunication equipment. Employee use of PPE is required is certain areas. Such PPE includes head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. Must be in excellent physical condition. Must comply with all applicable regulations and published Company work rules. May be required to work outside of normal business hours, such as nights, weekends, and holidays, or during adverse weather events, under pressure and strenuous conditions.
Language skills:
- Read and interpret documents such as CFR’s, FAR’s, foreign aviation regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Writing Pegasus policies & procedures manuals and general correspondence.
- Speak effectively one-on-one and before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Communicate with customers within and outside of the United States
- These customers include many for whom English is their second language
- Applicant must be patient and tolerant of differing cultural values and lingual challenges.
Math Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning Abilities:
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations
