The EHS Team Lead will be primarily responsible for mentoring and advising the team responsible for the company’s health, safety, and environmental (EHS) requirements, and the advancement and applicability of policies to the district and field sites. In addition to those duties, this position will work closely with Operations Management on the overall management of the district safety performance of achieving an injury-free work environment.
Success in this role will have demonstrated EHS/DOT oil field supervisory and worksite experience and core competency knowledge in occupational health and safety and OSHA requirements, along with experience in safety reporting programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Owns and maintains this document/process; updates this document as operation, industry, improvement, and company changes mandate.
- Directly supports District Manager per assigned location; builds relationships with Rig Managers and Field Supervisors to ensure the EHS/DOT Team is viewed as an asset while consistently engaged with operations, incidents, and Axis initiatives.
- Arrange meetings with the Field Supervisors and Equipment Operators to review EHS Technician performance; devise and implement plans to accommodate any issues or areas for improvement by diagnosing operational concerns.
- Manages a thorough inception program for new hire employees to create familiarity with necessary operating systems prior to his or her departure for assignment, including monitoring of the new hire checklist and overall employee progression process through prescribed systems once on location.
- Develop a Field Improvement Plan (FIP) for each field technician that will identify competency gaps and associated corrective actions. The FIP will be agreed to and owned by the individual technician and will be reviewed with the EHS/DOT Supervisor, the field foreman, and the Operation Manager.
- Establishes an open line of communication and support for EHS/DOT Techs to ensure opportunities for improvement are conveyed and a sense of comfort is present to successfully support assets; serves as the competency development focal point for EHS/DOT Technicians.
- Provides clarity for any ambiguous policies, programs, or EHS/DOT-related directives that are identified by assets; consults EHS/DOT Manager for assurance before dissemination.
- Contributes feedback and assistance with incident drafting; communicates changes/ revisions to EHS/DOT Manager to ensure optimum results.
- Supplies assistance and on-site presence in accordance with the severity of the incident(s), ensuring LFI and SIR documents are produced as relevant.
- Commits 20% of time visiting assigned assets at specified intervals, including upon request or significant event; additionally, inspects / audits on-site locations to ensure EHS/DOT compliance along with providing input on how to address non-conformances during visits.
- Attends Regional Safety Meetings for assigned assets to provide support and build relationships with team.
- Assists EHS/DOT Techs with Safety Meeting presentations as needed, including the sourcing of materials.
- Assists in scheduling audits and additional requests from Companies.
- Verifies compliance with all Axis Required Trainings and assists the EHS Technicians in assisting Axis employees with the completion of those training.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety; or in lieu of a college degree will consider a combination of college education or technical training education,
- 6-8+ years of demonstrated EHS/DOT work experience, preferably in the oil field services industry.
- CSP, SMS, ASP or OSHA training, PEC/Safeland training certifications preferred.
- Experience in ISNetworld or other contractor safety management systems; learning management systems (LMS) and safety reporting programs such as iScout/KPA or similar.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Bilingual in Spanish and English - is preferred.
