About the Job
This position serves in a Regional Election Office under the supervision of the Region IV Election Supervisor in Nome. This is a full-time, temporary position, beginning in April and continuing through mid-November. This position is not eligible for health insurance or PERS but does contribute to the Alaska Supplemental Annuity Plan (SBS) in lieu of contributions to Social Security.
The Election Clerk 3 will perform work related to election preparation activities in preparing forms and supplies sent to election officials to conduct state elections. Preparation includes but is not limited to familiarization with division forms, labeling, organizing by location while paying close attention to detail. All supplies must be prepared with corresponding voting site information and shipped to each location for the upcoming election cycle. Multiple elections occur in a cycle and supply preparations are happening simultaneously while one election may be ending.
Due to the high-profile nature of conducting elections, this position will be required to work within tight statutory deadlines and perform multiple job duties with constant interruptions. This is a multi-tasking position, which will require the incumbent to be organized, detail oriented, and self-motivated. In addition, this position will be required to work overtime, nights and weekends during peak periods of the election process as needed. The incumbent will earn time and a half for all hours over 40 in a workweek.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Operate a personal computer and assist with merging labels and documents using Word and Excel. Work under pressure by responding to short deadlines with speed and accuracy.
- Strong proofing skills and ability to be self-motivated to stay on top of deadlines for all elections occurring that cycle. Deadlines often overlap. This position requires high organizational skills, flexibility, successfully track projects and meet critical deadlines.
- Ability to lift approximately 50lbs, pack voting equipment and ensure all necessary components are packed and secured for shipping.
- Working knowledge of basic organization skills.
- Working knowledge of business practices, correspondence and typing formats, including English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Working knowledge of word processing software and the use of computer systems in an office environment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to answer questions and determine appropriate course of action relative to tasks.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, copy machines, fax machines.
- Ability to remain non-partisan in all activities while employed with the division.
