Company: Goforth Williamson
About Us In February of 2004, two mechanical engineers teamed together to form Goforth Williamson, Inc. With over 30 years of rotating equipment experience between them, Travis and David focused on developing GWI into a customer-oriented service company. Since that time, GWI has grown to a company with over 50 full-time employees. The employees of GWI are specialists in their fields. They have a vast knowledge of pumping equipment and the applications they are used in. The employees have experience from Original Equipment Manufacturers, motor shops, contractors, machine shops and other rotating equipment repair facilities.
Summary
We are seeking to fill the role of Electrical & Controls Engineer. This position reports directly to the Controls Division Head and will work closely with the Engineering Manager. The controls division is relatively new at GWI, so this is an opportunity to become part of the foundation of a successful organization as it continues to expand. We are looking for someone to be intrinsically self-motivated, a strong team player, a resourceful thinker, and hungry to help make GWI the authority on pump station controls in Georgia.
GWI offers a competitive salary and benefits package for this position including medical, dental, vision, long and short-term disability insurances as well as a HSA and a 401k plan. An office, company laptop, and all job-related equipment are included. This position comes with opportunity for advancement within the Controls Division as it grows and thrives.
Responsibilities
- Engineering control panel retrofits and "red-lining" or creating retrofit drawings. This can include, but is not limited to, the following situations:
- Replacing old pump station controllers
- Installing new power monitoring equipment, new pump motor protection equipment, or new telemetry equipment.
- Replacing starters, circuit breakers, and power wiring with larger equipment and conductors for upsizing pumps.
- Upgrading direct-on-line starters to soft starts or variable frequency drives.
- Quoting new control panels and retrofit jobs (parts and labor).
- Providing controls-related technical support or troubleshooting assistance over the phone to customers, sales people, or our own field service personnel. The Electrical & Controls Engineer will be the first line of defense for providing technical support over the phone.
- Reviewing submittals of control panels to ensure they are accurate and complete.
- Providing assistance with programming/commissioning variable frequency drives, soft starts, and pump station controllers.
- When necessary, speak on our lines of control products and our controls capabilities to customers.
- This position may require 10% travel for manufacturer training or customer site visits.
Qualifications
- Although 5 years' working experience in electrical controls/automation engineering is preferred, candidates with less experience who have a proven track record of the required skills coupled with the right attitude and technical aptitude will be considered.
- A 4-year degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology is required. Appropriate working experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of electricity/electrical concepts and industrial motor control components and systems. Control systems as they pertain to pump stations is a bonus.
- Ability to design/create an electrical drawing package complete with wiring schematic, panel layout, and field wiring chart.
- Experience with creating and reviewing submittal documentation.
- Experience with reading bid job specifications and quoting control panels per specs.
- Experience with panel building and NEC and UL requirements.
- Experience with a computer aided design program for electrical schematics, such as AutoCAD Electrical or ePlan.
- This is an engineering position, and as such, this work will primarily be in an office. Adequate phone and interpersonal communication skills are a must.
Proper training will be provided to set the foundation to be successful in this role, but the majority of the accumulated knowledge will come from hands-on experience.
