Summary
This position functions within a team of other professionals, and reports directly to the Engineering Manager or Technical Services Manager. The Electrical Engineer will lead all aspects of electrical engineering at the plant and own the plant’s electrical distribution systems. This role will be instrumental in plant project engineering and project management.
Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

- Ensure operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the plant’s electrical systems and electrical maintenance programs.
- Maintain electrical data, documentation, and drawings.
- Provide electrical engineering solutions to solve problems and contribute to the company’s Sustainability and Energy Reduction goals.
- Manages all aspects of long-term electrical infrastructure strategies.
- Establish electrical standards and implement management systems to maintain those standards.
- Design for electrical and control components of engineering projects.
- Monitor power consumption and energy charges, and implement techniques/procedures to minimize energy costs.
- Support and work closely with the site Controls System Team.
Project Engineering
- Support the preparation of annual capital budgets.
- Prepare and submit capital appropriation requests, including payback and internal rate of return (IRR) calculations.
- Prepare scopes of work and engineering specifications as part of the request for quote (RFQ) process.
- Develop and manage capital project engineering and construction contracts.
- Manage construction contractors and verification/quality control of work performed.
- Implement construction/installation strategies that coordinate with production plans.
- Actively participates in the commissioning of engineering projects.
- Manage multiple capital projects and ensure budget goals are met.
Maintenance Support
- Identify opportunities to improve plant power and control system reliability.
- Assist maintenance with the troubleshooting of plant production equipment.
- Works with the Maintenance Department to implement process improvements and support Reliable Asset Management objectives.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an accredited school required.
- 8 years of electrical engineering experience in an industrial environment required.
- Microsoft Office proficiency required.
Preferred
- Registered Professional Engineering License is a plus
- Preference given to those with knowledge and experience working with and trouble-shooting of:
- Electrical distribution systems ranging from 480V to 138 kV, including substations and MCC’s.
- Allen Bradley based PLC control systems for process and equipment control as well as associated HMI graphics.
- Large DC and AC motor drives control systems which utilize power electronics for variable speed control.
- Fiber optic and Ethernet based communications systems.
- Power factor correction systems.
- Electrical systems in a heavy industrial environment.
- AutoCAD, MS Project, CMMS systems, highly desirable.
- Other Electrical Engineer related software experience a plus.
- Allen Bradley PLC programs (PLC5, ControlLogix, MicroLogix, and DeviceNet) to troubleshoot system challenges.

Capable of working in hot and cold exterior environments, and wear PPE such as safety-toed boots with metatarsal guards, hard hat, safety eyewear, respirators, and hearing protection.
