ABOUT THE ROLE:
Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields to meet requirements. Prepares engineering, design, and construction of new and upgraded substations to provide reliable and economical system design and operation following established NOVEC guidelines. Provides consulting services to System Engineering & Planning Department concerning substation capacity issues. Provides substation cost estimates and complete turnkey services for Cooperative long and short-range plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop accurate and economical substation construction drawings using computer aided design software.
- Develop requirements for protection of facilities by preparing specifications for protective equipment, coordination studies, and switching orders as required by systems additions.
- Assist other members of department in the analysis of the electrical and telecommunication systems using computerized engineering models and business databases to design improvements and additions to the electrical system based on cost benefit ratio.
- Analyze power outages and other electrical system disturbances using information obtained from SCADA reports, protective device operation readings and field inspections to prepare recommendations for system improvement.
- Review new and upgraded substation construction drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with RUS specifications, National Electrical Safety Code Standards, local ordinances, NOVEC policies, NOVEC construction specifications, and S&T Department guidelines.
- Review construction projects to ensure compliance with RUS specifications, National Electrical Safety Code Standards, local ordinances, NOVEC policies, and S&T Department guidelines.
- Prepare and implement short and long-range work plans.
- Determine material specifications and selections, and monitor construction and field engineering activities to ensure adherence to work plan schedules for system improvements.
- Coordinate the design, construction, and testing activities for additions and improvements to the substation system.
- Provide support to System Operations Department as outlined in the Cooperative's Service Restoration Plan.
- Work continually towards self-development to stay current on substation design and operation and electrical engineering procedures and practices.
ENGINEER IV:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited institution is required. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- NCEES EIT certification and 9+ years of related experience OR 12+ years of related experience.
- Experience and/or training in the design, construction, and operation of electrical substations.
- A licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.
ENGINEER III:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited institution is required. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- NCEES EIT certification and 5+ years of related experience OR 8+ years of related experience
- Experience and/or training in the design, construction, and operation of electrical substations.
