The role assigns and directs electrical project engineering activities based on the facility priorities and business plan
The Engineering Lead established roles and responsibilities, metrics, and performance standards for direct reports
The Engineering Lead supports future project identification and planning efforts
The position is also responsible for implementing new designs and upgrades to electrical systems
The Engineer will manage multiple projects often from conception thru commissioning and close-out. Projects include capacity, process and reliability improvements for areas throughout the facility. The Electrical Project Engineering Lead’s essential functions include:Lead and facilitate cross-functional project teams to develop project scope and requirementsDevelop and manage project scope, resourcing plan, budget, and schedulePrepare capital authorizationsDevelop specifications and evaluate technical engineering and equipment bid packagesAdminister engineering, equipment purchase, and installation contractsCoordinate and manage installations and outagesTrack and report project performance, schedule, and cost complianceReview design packages and drawings for compliance with contract documents and Kaiser standardsCoordinate with internal Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and Engineering resources to achieve project objectivesParticipate in the final check-out of new installations
This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specificationsAssist in trouble-shooting equipment control and electrical systemsRecognize and prioritize project needs to support the facility’s power infrastructureDirect resources to support continuous improvements efforts for electrical safety initiatives and Kaiser’s electrical standardsProvide input into the future capital project planning process through updates and development of lists of electrical systems requiring updates, including automation opportunitiesMentor and coach direct reports to provide a consistent product that complies with Kaiser processes, standards, codes, and best practicesComply with all Safety, Quality, and Environmental RegulationsRequirementsEDUCATION An undergraduate degree in BSEE or BSET is required.EXPERIENCEThis individual will possess:Minimum of 5 years previous electrical engineering experienceDemonstrated experience managing projects in a manufacturing environmentExperience with functional and performance-based specification developmentFamiliarity with electrical and control system design including key documents such as schematics diagrams, single lines, P&ID and control narrativesKnowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems, AC/DC motors and drive systems and National Electrical Code and NFPA 70EKnowledge of control system theory, instrumentation, PLC based control systems and safety systemsExcellent analytical skills including knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA)Strong Word, Excel, MS Project skillsExcellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skillsProven ability to work in teamsAbility to manage multiple tasks simultaneouslyPERSONAL ATTRIBUTESAutonomous and self-starterHighly organized, systematic, and preciseAbility to work in a multicultural environmentAbility to work effectively with operators, maintenance technicians, other engineers and managersAnalytical understanding and critical thinking are of primary importanceEnergetic, disciplined and focused on a team building organization.Willing to work occasional flexible hours to support 24 x 7 manufacturing operationsPERFORMANCE FACTORSAttendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work
