DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Electrical Systems Engineer to join our team specializing in Electrical Systems Architecture and Design for our low carbon hybrid powerplants and battery system solutions, for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fridley, MN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
+ Develop and validate essential electronic components, ensuring Cummins products perform consistently across various applications.
+ Investigate hardware issues, understand root causes, and document solutions to enhance product reliability.
+ Improve electronic hardware development processes and tools, applying problem-solving techniques and requirements analysis.
+ Utilize design methods to ensure robust product performance, including worst-case analysis and circuit simulation.
+ Collaborate with suppliers and application engineering teams to deliver prototype hardware, influencing product functionality and cost.
+ Make decisions on hardware requirements and validation tests, impacting unit cost, functionality, and prototype delivery.
+ Independently execute established work processes while developing your technical expertise and contributing to process improvements.
+ Coordinate and direct work amongst technicians or temporary employees, fostering team collaboration and achieving group goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
+ Demonstrated ability to excel in dynamic and challenging environments, consistently engaging in hands-on collaboration with team members to achieve shared objectives.
+ Prior knowledge and experience with battery, power electronics, CAN communication protocols, including CANopen and J1939.
+ Demonstrate a willingness and commitment to thoroughly understanding and adhering to industry regulations, codes, and standards.
+ Collaborate globally within the various Electrification teams to recommend best-standardized practices for High Voltage (<3000V) component selection, design and implementation at the vehicle or system level.
+ Experience with EMI/EMC, as well as Filtering tools (toroidal filters, insulation, shielding, etc)
+ Experience with full system I/O checkouts, and verification of high and low voltage grounding systems.
+ Demonstrated experience with electrical hardware wiring best practices, as well as fuse selection and implementation.
+ Master the design and application of mechatronics systems, specifying and applying electronic hardware and interconnections to ensure seamless operation.
+ Leverage knowledge in electrical and mechanical design to create robust, electrified system architectures that meet Cummins' and customers' expectations.
+ Apply failure mode avoidance techniques to mitigate potential product failures and improve reliability through systematic analysis.
+ Utilize modeling, simulation, and analysis tools to make informed product design decisions and validate performance.
+ Develop and execute product validation plans to identify and manage potential failure modes, ensuring product capability and reliability.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Entry level/Early career professional. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Information:
+ A bachelor’s degree in electrical and/or electronics engineering is preferred.
+ 3-5 years of prior professional experience preferred.
