Job Description
The Electrical Journeyman is responsible for installation, monitoring and repairing of the electrical systems of the organization.
Position Responsibilities - Essential
- Plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment
- Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, rules and conduit benders
- Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by helper
- Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps
- Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools
- Install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit- breaker panels, and fastens in place with crews or bolts using hand or power tools
- Connect power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads
- Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer and oscilloscope
- Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
- Disassemble and repair defective electrical equipment or systems
- Load, transport and unload material, tools, equipment and supplies
- Maintains tools and equipment
- Wear personal protective equipment and use safety equipment as required i.e. safety glasses, safety toe shoes, full face mask respirator with supplied air, etc.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules
- Rate information using personal judgment or standards that can be measured or checked
- Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
- Based on the nature of the essential functions associated with this role, GreenWood has designated this as a “safety-sensitive” position.
