The Group You’ll Be A Part Of
In the SEM Lab, we serve as the eyes for Lam’s process development teams. Our objective is high volume metrology data generation, with rapid turn around times to facilitate more experimental iterations and a faster time to solution.
The Impact You’ll Make
Your work will generate critical data for Lam’s process development, and is essential for demonstrating Lam’s product to the customer. You will need to be proficient in analytical techniques centered around Focused Ion Beam – Scanning Electron Microscopes. Mastering these tools will require an understanding of the science of their operation, as well as a thoughtful and open minded approach that can yield innovations in their operation.
As a scientist level position, your discoveries and techniques will be communicated across the team through presentations and technical writing, as well as in person demonstrations. This will increase the impact of this position by bringing up the rest of the team with each new advance to the state of the art.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare STEM lamella and image them in a Thermo Fisher Helios FIB-SEM
- Work to continually improve lab processes and communicate advancements with the team
- Perform pathfinding on new sample types and document in work instructions
- Work with internal customers to solve technical problems and streamline workflows
- Develop new techniques for FIB-SEM tools, including automation
Who We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics or related field with no previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of dual beam scanning electron microscope/focused ion beam technology is preferred.
- The candidate should possess good written and verbal communication skills to work with a large internal customer base.
- Proficiency with Windows PC’s and MS Office.
- Familiarity with developments in the semiconductor industry and its materials is a plus.

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
