Job Details
The Security Service Technician I will assist in the service, troubleshooting, and repair of basic electronic security systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and associated cabling or network infrastructure. This is an entry-level position designed to develop foundational technical skills, with a focus on learning and supporting more experienced technicians. The primary responsibility is to help with the installation and maintenance of I.P. networked cameras, access control systems, and intrusion alarms while providing support to customers and other team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite technical support to design, build, install, configure, maintain, and operate an HPSD-12 FIPS 140-2 compliant ESS
- Assist senior technicians with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of I.P. cameras, access control systems, video management systems, and intrusion alarms
- Help pull or feed cables through conduits, walls, plenum spaces, and access holes, as per building plans and electrical layouts and in accordance with instructions from supervisors
- Terminate and label cables and install connectors such as RJ-45 or by landing cables in terminal blocks; dress cables into enclosures in a neat and professional manner in accordance with instructions from senior technicians
- Test newly installed or pre-existing cables to verify continuity or signal loss and diagnose system communications issues
- Test backup batteries, sensors, and other system components to ensure proper functioning, under supervision
- Exhibit proficiency in using a variety of hand tools and an electronic multimeter to test or verify voltage
- Provide support in configuring, programming and troubleshooting basic software and hardware issues, and escalate issues to senior technicians as needed
- Carry equipment and tools to and from the job site; assist in organizing work areas and maintain a clean workspace
- Learn to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents
- Assist in testing, inspecting, and replacing defective components, such as cameras, sensors, and card readers
- Shadow more experienced technicians in diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in security systems
Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship and an active U.S. government security clearance or the ability to obtain U.S. government security clearance up to the level of Top Secret
- HS Diploma or higher required
- At least 1 year of experience in low voltage/CCTV/security industry or a demonstrated strong desire to learn the industry and significant experience using hand tools for electronic systems installation, construction, or renovations
- Basic technical skills in low voltage wiring and basic troubleshooting preferred
- Ability to follow instructions, work under supervision, and learn from more experienced colleagues
- Basic hand tool usage and interest in technical work; willingness to undergo technical training and certifications
Work Environment
This position is 100% field-based; requires regular visits to work sites in the field; site conditions will vary.
