JOB DESCRIPTION
The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority Electronic Systems Technician Position encompasses the following:
Set-up, installation and maintenance of the following Mobile and Stationary Systems:
- Mobile Fare Collection Systems which include the actual fare collection in itself.
- The mobile network in which the collection system interfaces,
- The collection system data acquisition equipment
- The collection system stationary and mobile Vault/Safe, Token and other Pass media equipment
Set-up, Installation and maintenance of the CAD/AVL System which includes:
- The Mobile CAD/AVL system in itself utilizing:
- VoIP PTT communications,
- CAN-BUS J-1708, J-1939 interface to the vehicle, Fare Collection system, the mobile Audio/Visual system and the mobile Video surveillance system.
- Other analog and digital inputs to the CAD/AVL system
- Audio/Visual media equipment that the CAD/AVL interfaces with
Set-up, installation and maintenance of the Mobile Video Surveillance System:
- Analog and Digital Mobile DVR utilizing SSD and HDD storage
- Digital Cameras w/ Audio
- Analog Cameras with digital converters
- Analog Microphones
- POE (Power Over Ethernet) converters
- J-1939 interface to the CAD/AVL system
- Wireless and manual download of recorded video data
Set-up, Message Generation, download of the LED destination sign system:
- Message Generation and compiling
- Downloading
- Destination sign system interface to the CAD/AVL system
Maintenance Div, Dispatch 400 Mhz telecommunications system:
- Set-up, installation and maintenance of the Analog handheld and mobile radios on the stand alone 400 mhz AAATA radio system.
- Includes Maintenance of an In-House 400 Mhz Bi-directional antenna system.
Other responsibilities are not limited to:
- Assist the AAATA Maintenance Div. specialist with removal /re-installation of the above equipment, which may hinder/obstruct proper mechanical maintenance.
- Repair of certain AAATA Maint. Div. specialty tools and other equipment.
- Assist the AAATA Facilities Maintenance Div. with analog and digital trouble shooting.
- Assist the AAATA Information Technologies, Facilities Maint. and Mechanical Maint. Div. with specialized repair.

Position Specifics:
- Reports to the Fleet Services Manager.
- Reviews Daily Vehicle Repair request notifications by verbal, paperless (electronic), and via Vehicle condition cards.
- Inspects, tests and performs maintenance on all the criteria encompassing this position.
- Initiates Paperless, and/or written notification, repair/maintenance record keeping of all AAATA vehicles and In-House equipment.

Technical Requirements:
Applicant must have:
- Sound working knowledge of the use of a VOM (Volt-Ohm meter), RF SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) Meter, Variable AC/DC power supplies, Variable frequency/multi-mode generators.
- Working knowledge of Ohm's law pertaining to both AC/and DC circuits.
- The ability to read and understand electronic/electrical service manuals.
- Safe and effective tool training and operation.
- Good computer skills.
- Solve problems within a given timeframe.

Physical Requirements:
Applicant must be able to:
- Perform under intermittent stress.
- Multi-task with frequent interruptions.
- Perform safely in high noise, extreme atmospheric conditions which include high heat, high humidity in the summer and cold temperatures in the winter. Must also be able to safely perform in rain and snow/ice conditions.
- Be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. not to exceed 100 lbs.
- Perform as an effective team member.
- Respective communication skills with the public.

Education/Experience:
- Associate in Science degree in electronics from an accredited community college or an Electronics Credential from an accredited electronics certificate program, or its equivalent (i.e., completion of a military electronics training program) or three (3) years of verifiable electronic maintenance (troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electronic and/or electro-mechanical equipment), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Transit experience preferred.
