About the Job
Overview:
We are seeking a meticulous and skilled Soldering and PCB Rework Technician to join our electronics assembly team. This role will focus on soldering, reworking, and troubleshooting Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) to ensure high-quality production and prototype development. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both surface-mount and through-hole soldering techniques and have experience working with complex electronics.
Responsibilities:
• Soldering and Assembly:
• Perform precision soldering on PCBAs, including surface-mount, through-hole, and leadless components.
• Assemble electronic components onto PCBs according to engineering specifications and schematics.
• Rework and repair solder joints on faulty or defective PCBAs.
• Use lead-free and standard soldering techniques to meet regulatory and quality standards.
• Rework and Troubleshooting:
• Identify and troubleshoot defects in PCB assemblies, including poor solder joints, incorrect component placement, or damaged traces.
• Conduct rework processes on failed or damaged PCBAs, ensuring full restoration of functionality.
• Work closely with engineers and production teams to debug and improve assembly processes.
• Testing and Inspection:
• Inspect PCBAs under a microscope to verify solder quality and ensure proper component placement.
• Perform functional tests on reworked boards to confirm operational integrity.
• Operate electronic testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes and multimeters, to evaluate circuit performance.
• Documentation and Process Improvement:
• Document rework and repair processes in detail, noting any recurring issues or improvement opportunities.
• Suggest process enhancements to improve the efficiency and quality of PCB assembly and rework.
• Maintain records of component usage, rework actions, and test results for future reference.
Qualifications:
• Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in PCB assembly, soldering, and rework.
• Proficient with both surface-mount and through-hole soldering techniques.
• Experience working with fine-pitch, high-density PCBAs is a plus.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong proficiency in soldering small electronic components, including lead-free soldering.
• Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) safety practices.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and engineering documents.
• Skilled in using rework stations, hot air reflow tools, and microscopes for detailed work.
• Certifications:
• Certification in IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) or IPC J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) is highly desirable.
Other Requirements:
• Keen attention to detail with the ability to work under a microscope for extended periods.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precise soldering work.
