POSITION TITLE:Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meet minimum standards for certification as set forth by the Mississippi Department of Education for the licensure of Mississippi personnel for the subject and grade level assigned
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- In an emergency situation, an appropriate certification as determined by Mississippi Department of Educator Office of Educator Licensure
REPORTS TO: Principal and Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Contract with salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
APPOINTMENT:
The Assistant Principal shall be recommended by the principal and the superintendent and approved by the board.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Asst. Principal assists the principal with the administrative duties for the total educational program and manages, with the assistance of the principal, the all aspects of the discipline, textbook, and transportation programs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school;
- Serves as the principal in the absence of the regular principal;
- Proposes schedules of classes and extracurricular activties;
- Supervises the preparation of student schdules;
- Works with department heads, and/or lead teachers, and faculty in compiling annual budget requests;
- Requisitions supplies, materials, textbooks, equipment; conducts inventories; maintains records, and administers the textbook inventory;
- Assumes responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services;
- Assists in safety inspections and safety drill practice activties;
- Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with attendance personnel to provide follow-up action;
- Assumes cooperative responsibility for maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with promptly and professionally with infractions to the discipline code, when neccesary;
- Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives;
- Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct;
- Supervises teachers and department or grade levels as assigned by the principal;
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign;
- Coordinates all activities of the teaching team;
- Assumes responsibility for the continual improvement of the quality of instruction of the team;
- Serves as adviser and counselor to all student teachers assigned to the team;
- Oversees and coordinates the clerical work of the team;
- Assists in the master schedule and with any individual teacher scheduling problems;
- Assume responsibility for the development and implementation of resource files for the team;
- Coordinates the creation and development of specialized curriculum materials;
- Plans an individualized approach to the learning problems of students served by the team;
- Encourages team members in the use of new methods and materials;
- Offers in-service workshops and training that are deemed useful by teachers on the team;
- Coordinates interdisciplinary units of study with the teaching team;
- Meets on a regular basis with other lead teachers to discuss new materials and programs, evaluate present programs, and consider problems of mutual concern, formulating recommendations as necessary and appropriate;
- Meets and confers with parents as necessary;
- Assists members of the team in evaluation of all students; and
- Perform other related duties as supervising principal or district administrators may assign.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and carrying (up to 20 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving furniture may be required. The position requires the ability to perceive the nature of the object by the eye and the ability to give and receive information through effective speaking, listening, and writing skills.

- Assists in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of instructional programs and activities; interprets and implements the district-approved curriculum program in light of individual school needs.
- Assists in providing leadership to the professional staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short-range plans for the school.
- Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.
- Assists in the supervision of student enrollment, records, attendance, and health requirements.
- Develops plans for emergency situations, in cooperation with staff and public safety agencies.
- Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in district and site professional growth programs.
- Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
- Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, with follow-up student/parent contact where necessary.
- Has knowledge of local policies, state and federal laws relating to minors.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
