Reports to: This position reports to and is evaluated by the School Principal
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with Endorsement for desired grade level (ZO, ZP, ZG, ZC, ZK, or ZE endorsement)
- Previous experience teaching elementary school students.
- Strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and effective instructional strategies.
- Passion for integrating arts into the curriculum and promoting creativity in the classroom.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the Google Suite;
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic educational environment and contribute to a positive school culture.
Position Description: Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences is seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary School Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, as well as a genuine passion for nurturing the academic and personal development of elementary school students. As an Elementary School Teacher, you will play a crucial role in shaping the educational experience of our students, promoting creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning.
Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
Terms of Employment: Salary & benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. The salary range for certified teachers starts at $51,300. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum, Common Core, and state standards.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, respectful behavior, and a sense of community among students.
- Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring each student's unique needs are met.
- Regularly assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents/guardians.
- Work collaboratively with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the school's positive and collaborative culture.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents/guardians through regular updates, conferences, and involvement in school events.
- Stay informed about current educational trends, participate in professional development opportunities, and continuously seek ways to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
- Actively participate in the Teaching and Learning Cycle which requires analyzing data, completing action plans, delivering re-teach lessons and reflecting on the instructional learning cycle;
- Participate in the development of and adhere to all specialized student plans i.e. Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), 504, Behavior Plans, etc.
- Contribute to a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability;
- Adhere to the District’s and School’s policies, expectations, and protocols as outlined in the District’s Policies and Procedures Manual and School’s Procedures Manual.
