Job Summary:
The Emergency Department Director provides clinical and administrative leadership in emergency medicine. You'll be responsible for implementing the organization's vision, mission, plans, and standards while overseeing all aspects of the Emergency Department's operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all clinical and administrative functions of the Emergency Department
- Ensure high-quality patient care and optimal patient experiences
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance departmental efficiency
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, and performance management of ED personnel
- Manage department budget and resource allocation
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
- Oversee the hospital's trauma program and maintain trauma designation requirements
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based practice
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in Iowa or compact state nursing license
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- 3-5 years of experience in emergency medicine, with 1-2 years in a clinical leadership role
- Current BLS certification (ACLS and PALS certification required within 6 months of hire)
- TNCC certification required within one year of hire
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in data analysis, budgeting, and performance improvement methodologies
- Experience with electronic health records and healthcare information systems
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of emergency nursing practices and pre-hospital care
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Ability to motivate and mentor staff, fostering a positive work environment
- Commitment to patient-centered care and service excellence
