About the Job
The Riverside University Health System - Medical Centeris seeking both Regular Fulltime Emergency Department Technicians and Per Diem Nursing Assistant to join our team. This post will open on the first week of each month, serving as an opportunity for prospective candidates to apply for available positions. Under direct supervision, assists licensed professional Riverside University Health System - Medical Center (RUHS-MC) staff in the Emergency Department (ED) by providing a variety of patient services, which include basic administrative, clerical, and medical support services for patients in the ED; and performs other related duties as required.
The Emergency Department Technician is a first professional level classification and reports to an Assistant Nurse Manager, working under the technical guidance and supervision of Registered Nurses in the Emergency Department. Incumbents are tasked with providing basic bedside care to ED patients, including patient preparation for various exams and medical procedures, as well as transportation to and from other units within the RUHS-MC. The Emergency Department Technician class is further tasked with orthopedic duties, including the application and removal of splints, bandages, and slings.

Evening Shift Diff (3p - 11:00p): $.60 for the time actually worked between the hours
Night Shift Diff (11p - 7:00a): $1.20 for the time actually worked between the hours
Per Diem Nursing Assistant Rate: SALARY RANGE $24.65 Hourly

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Perform basic bedside care to ensure comfort and cleanliness of patients; perform oral care, bathing, and feeding of patients; provide bedpans, urinals, and other items to patients, as necessary.
• Record patient's height and weight, pain scale, temperature, pulse,respirations, and blood pressure in the triage and ED assigned area, per ED policy.
• Assist staff in performing basic medical exams, treatments, and procedures; assist ED Registered Nurses in trauma resuscitation; respond to and assist RN's with code blue and code white situations.
• Assist patients in ambulation and transition from bed to wheelchair or gurney; properly lift, hold, reposition, and restrain patients as necessary; transport patients to and from diagnostic testing areas withinRUHS-MC.
• Transport all patient specimens collected in the ED toRUHS-MClab for analysis.
• Ensure assigned ED area and carts are properly stocked, cleaned, and ready for use; maintain and ensure operational readiness of all orthopedic equipment in the ED.
• Apply and remove splints, bandages, and slings, following physician orders; attend to problems with application and re-apply as necessary.
• Provide crutch and cane use training to patients.
• PerformEKGson patients, as directed by ED physician.
• Perform ED clerical duties as needed, including answering ED phone calls and relaying messages as applicable; track visits to ED patients, admissions, discharges, transfers, and ED census.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED), or Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education.
Experience: Six months performing technical duties as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Paramedic in a general acute care hospital or Emergency Department, or successful completion of a State approved Certified Nursing Assistant or related training program in basic patient care within the past two years.
License/Certifications(Must possess one of the following):
Other Requirements: C urrent Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Knowledge of: Relevant medical terminology; basic patient care and/or administrative techniques; medical assisting skills and the various types of materials and equipment related to outpatient care and their applications; methods of conducting or assisting patients (per medical care provider's instructions) with basic tests and treatments performed at an ambulatory care clinic; basic needs and problems of disadvantaged groups: the causes and treatment of medical and/or public health problems and the problems facing the educationally and economically disadvantaged.
Ability to: Communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain good relations with a wide range of social and ethnic groups as well as professional staff and community members; obtain and record accurate patient information, and perform routine clinical procedures; follow and implement activities according to written standardized procedures; perform clerical tasks (i.e., utilizing personal computer for inputting pertinent client/patient information, answering phones, filing, etc.).

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
- Tier I (Classic Member - Formula 3% @ 60): Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08/24/2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions. The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent.
- Tier II (Classic Member - Formula 2% @ 60): Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08/23/2012 through 12/31/2012; 2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside. The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent.
- Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62): Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013. Effective July 1, 2023 employee contributions are 7.25% and will increase to 7.75% effective July 1, 2024.
A new member is defined as any of the following:
CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members".

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance)
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
