Primary Purpose
The Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive emergency management programs and protocols for the school district. This role ensures that all schools and facilities are prepared for, can respond to, and can recover from emergencies and disasters effectively, safeguarding the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public/business administration, safety management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Experience in a school or educational environment is highly desirable.
Skills: Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Proficiency MS and Google Suite. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Knowledge: Familiarity with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS)
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Emergency Preparedness Planning:
- Develop, update, and implement emergency management plans and procedures for the district, including disaster response, recovery, and business continuity plans.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis to identify potential vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with local emergency services, law enforcement, and community agencies to ensure comprehensive and integrated emergency response plans.
Training and Drills:
- Organize and conduct emergency response training and drills for district staff, students, and stakeholders.
- Ensure all emergency management training programs meet federal, state, and district requirements.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of drills and training exercises and make recommendations for improvements.
Crisis Management:
- Serve as a point of contact for emergency response coordination during actual emergencies and disasters.
- Assist with the activation and operation of the district’s emergency operations center (EOC) during emergencies.
- Provide guidance and support to school administrators and staff during crisis situations.
- Provide support in coordinatingthe District’s reunification drill training involving district personnel and external emergency personnel
Communication:
- Knowledge of communication strategies for emergency situations, including internal notifications and external communications with parents, media, and the community.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of emergency management activities, training, drills, and incidents.
- Prepare and submit reports on emergency management activities and outcomes to district leadership and relevant agencies.
Compliance and Improvement:
- Ensure district emergency management plans and practices comply with state and federal regulations and standards. Ensure that documentation of these practices is accurately maintained to support the requirements of Intruder Detection Audits, State 3-year audits, and District Vulnerability Assessments.
- Regularly review and update emergency plans and procedures based on lessons learned and changes in regulations or best practices.
Other Related Duties:

- Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to integrate emergency management principles into school operations and curricula.
- Attend relevant meetings, conferences, and training sessions to stay current with emerging trends and developments in emergency management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership related to emergency management and safety.
Working Conditions:
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend work for training, drills, and emergency response activities.
- The Emergency Management Coordinator may be required to respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
