Provides family centered healthcare utilizing a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to deliver state of the art care to adults, children and infants; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adheres to policies pertaining to confidentiality; attends required staff meetings; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety and when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions; performs patient assessments through inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion and observation; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, LIPS’s, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone/radios; responds to group pages; receives patient report by radio, phone or health care team; maintains accurate and complete medical records; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric populations; receives direction and assignments from physicians, Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIP) and nurses and provides technical support to optimize patient care; responsible for reporting on the condition of patient/client to appropriate supervisor and other staff members; coordinates and assists with care as directed; cleans and stocks carts, rooms and changes linens as required; assists with the transportation of patients to other departments; assists with resuscitation/CPR; assists with obtaining and documenting vital signs and placement of oxygen saturation and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems in the electronic medical record; assists with other technical functions such as: obtaining 12-lead EKGs; discontinuing peripheral IVs and heparin/saline locks, and maintaining and caring of specimens for laboratory analysis; assists with wound care; performs venipuncture and/or establishes intravenous access and obtains blood specimens or blood cultures; participates in decontamination processes; performs POC (point of care) blood glucose and hemoglobin; decontaminates all equipment, instruments and supplies; assists with positioning patients and applying orthopedic splints and dressings; measures and fits crutches; instructs patients on proper crutch use; maintains appropriate documentation; maintains use of appropriate medical equipment and supplies; participates in team meetings and inservices as needed; assists with discharge; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent, graduate of an EMT-Advanced course, licensed as an Advanced EMT in the state of Alabama, one year of related experience and current BLS certification required. Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama may be required for some positions.
