Summary:
The Emergency Department at Rush Oak Park Hospital is currently recruiting for a Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their team. This role will function on a rotating 10-hour schedule alongside 14 full-time Emergency Medicine Physicians and seven fellow Advanced Practice Providers. Night shifts are not currently required but may be added as needed. Two weekends (four shifts) per four week block are required.
_*APRNs must have pediatrics or Family Nurse Practitioner certification_
_*Position requires 3-5 years of experience in clinical specialty_
With an annual volume of more than 47,000 patients, the Emergency Department is well-staffed with an average of 58 hours of physician coverage and 40 hours of mid-level provider coverage daily. The newly built emergency room was opened in October 2019 has 22 private rooms, and 10 Fast Track treatment areas. Emergency Medicine (EM) APPs are employed by the hospital and receive a competitive benefits package, CME allowance and paid time off. Responsibilities:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or advanced practice nurse (APN) who functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical care of Rush Oak Park Hospital Emergency Department patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the ROPH medical staff bylaws. The APP will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care.
The Lead Advanced Practice Provider ("APP") helps lead, supervise, coordinate, and represent the APPs within the Rush Oak Park Hospital Emergency Department. The Lead APP assists with the scheduling, orientation, and other administrative and leadership duties for the APPs.
Clinical Responsibilities
• Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients.
• Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans.
• Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice.
• Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
• Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures.
• Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record.
• Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations.
• Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies.
• Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which is a hospital emergency department setting.
• Works collaboratively with his/her supervising/collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
• Acts as an advocate for patients, families and coworkers.
• Participates in all required focused and ongoing professional practice evaluation activities (i.e. FPPE and OPPE)
• Integrates evidence based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.
• Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skill considered essential in their area of practice.
• Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education.
Leadership Responsibilities
• Supports the organization’s overall strategic plan and direction.
• Serves as a leader of the healthcare team to provide integrated delivery of patient care services.
• Develops and leads implementation of department goals by collaborating with department staff, students, and physicians.
• Serves as a role model and thought leader for their own profession including practice analysis and advancement to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Coordinates and determines the monthly APP schedule and resolves scheduling issues with individual providers as needed
• Conducts annual performance evaluations of the Rush Oak Park Hospital Emergency Department APPs and provides feedback to them in a constructive manner
• Contributes to the development of and revisions to policies and procedures involving the Rush Oak Park Hospital APPs and helps implement these policies and procedures within the Rush Oak Park Hospital Emergency Department

Required Job Qualifications:
Physician Assistant
• Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure required.
• Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or other agency recognized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) required.
• Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program required; Master’s degree preferred.
• BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS are required within one year of employment.
Advanced Nurse Practitioner
• Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Licensure required.
• Specialization as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with a Pediatric Certification is required.
• Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying organization Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program.
• Master’s or Doctorate degree in nursing required.
• BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS are required within one year of employment.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Experience as a practicing APP in a hospital emergency department.
• Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Superb time management and organizational skills
Physical Demands:
• Ability to work in a demanding patient care environment where the exposure to illnesses is a constant concern.
