Job Description:
Follow prescribed patient treatments, which include various technical procedures such as intravenous catheter placement for both short and long-term vein access, venipuncture, IV injections, wound management, drug administration (IV, oral, subcutaneous), bandage care, blood transfusion administration, emergency intervention, ECG monitoring, and various another routine diagnostic testing's.
Must demonstrate the ability to:
- Understand hospital treatment plans and present them in a clear manner to clients. Provide quick and accurate information regarding each patient and be proficient in entering data into the electronic medical record.
- Work effectively as a member of a team and be an active participant in problem-solving.
- Work effectively with computers and multiple software platforms – EzyVet experience preferred.
- Work independently and practice good judgment to ensure high-quality care for all patients, and request assistance when needed.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide nursing care for critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians.
- Participate in nurse rounds
- Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency
- Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
- Perform diagnostics, including in-hours laboratory testing and digital radiography, and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
- Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
- Observe patients and recognize changes in status
- Place peripheral and central catheters
- Perform venipuncture
- Restrain patients for exams and treatments
- Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
- Perform client communication and education including patient discharges
- Maintain urinary catheters
- Bandage removal and application
- Perform suture and drain removal
- Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
- Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
- Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
- Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
- Basic wound cleaning and care
- Prep patients for anesthetized procedures
- Prep equipment and supplies for anesthetized procedures
- Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
- Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
- Interpret vital readings during anesthesia
- Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
- Assist in CPCR
