Employment Attorney - Direct Hire with Relocation at Talascend

A Talascend client in Los Alamos, New Mexico has a need for an Employment Attorney for their General Counsel team. This role offers a generous relocation package, as well as an award-winning benefits package. Work schedule is 2 days Remote and 3 days in-office. Los Alamos is approximately 30 minutes from Santa Fe, New Mexico and within driving distance from Albuquerque NM.

- Serve as a legal subject matter expert in laws relating to discrimination and harassment (e.g., Title VII, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, New Mexico Human Rights Act), wage and hour (e.g., FLSA), labor (e.g., NLRA), benefits, immigration, and other employment-related laws and regulations.
- Draft, review, analyze, and provide advice/guidance on legal and institutional documents, including personnel policies, contracts, and management directives.
- Develop a proactive plan to help ensure compliance with employment-related laws in all jurisdictions where the client has employees, including monitoring and advising stakeholders on changes in the law.
- Practice preventive law by anticipating legal issues that may arise and work with clients to develop and implement strategies to minimize risk to the company and avoid costly legal disputes.
- Train and provide an educational overview of applicable areas of law to management and employees, including information on industry practices and regulatory changes.
- Research and evaluate information regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting company policies or programs in connection with recommending sound, practical solutions to complex issues.
- Understand and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to the Office of General Counsel.
- Approximately 10 years of experience in employment law.
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
- Must be in good standing with the State Bar of New Mexico or “Another State.
- Expected to obtain authorization to practice law in New Mexico within one year of being hired. The cost of obtaining authorization will be covered by the employer.
- 7+ years of legal experience after passing the bar exam and being admitted to practice.
- Significant experience practicing law in the areas of discrimination and harassment (e.g., Title VII, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, New Mexico Human Rights Act), wage and hour (e.g., FLSA), labor (e.g., NLRA), and other labor- and employment-related laws and regulations. (Expert level experience preferred.
- Experience with drafting, reviewing, analyzing, and providing advice/guidance on legal and institutional documents, including personnel policies, contracts, and management directives.
- The ability to interact with all levels of staff and management, establishing productive working relationships, and providing constructive advice on a variety of employment law issues.
- Ability to anticipate legal issues that may arise, and work with clients to develop and implement strategies to minimize risk.
- Expertise in any other such areas could be helpful to the candidate's application, including, in particular, employee benefits law (including ERISA) and immigration law, although knowledge and experience in such areas is not a requirement for the selected candidate.

- Strong preference for experience in harassment and discrimination cases.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
- Experience in labor law, particularly in a unionized environment.
- Corporate sector experience preferred; in-house employment counsel experience highly desirable.
- Litigation experience not mandatory.
- Must be willing to apply for admission to the New Mexico Bar if not already licensed in the state.
- Hybrid schedule with 2 days Remote and 3 days in-office.
- In-office days may include 2 days at the Santa Fe office and 1 day onsite in Los Alamos.
- Flexibility required to adjust the schedule as needed for urgent matters.
- Must reside within a 2-hour radius of Los Alamos. Most people reside in Santa Fe or Albuquerque New Mexico
