Bakeworks, our San Francisco bakery and cafe provides training and employment opportunities for people with Intellectual/Developmental, mental health and other disabilities and those experiencing homelessness. Located in Civic Center and Hayes Valley, we bake everything from scratch, every day. Food made better. Lives made better.
Job Summary
The Employment Development Specialist/Barista will provide café/bakery duties while also teaching/coaching job skills and ensuring the successful retention of trainees.
- $23.25 to $23.74 per hour + tips
- Schedule: Part-time, 20-29 hours per week, flexibility required
- Full training provided
- Located at the Hayes Valley Bakeworks in San Francisco
Key Responsibilities
- Client Support: Train and mentor clients with disabilities, ensuring they achieve the highest degree of independence in their job roles. Address issues impacting job readiness and performance, such as transportation and personal hygiene. Educate clients on their rights and self-advocacy.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain high standards of food and beverage quality, cleanliness, and safety. Assist with various kitchen duties, prepare beverages and food orders, and manage inventory and equipment.
- Administrative Duties: Handle essential paperwork including monthly billing, progress notes, and incident reports. Maintain certifications and compliance with agency standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with management and staff at Toolworks and Bakeworks to enhance service delivery and client satisfaction. Participate in team meetings and contribute to staff training and development.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proven kitchen and barista experience.
- At least two years of experience working with adults with disabilities, preferably in a community setting.
- American Sign Language, Spanish or Cantonese skills preferred. Some level of fluency for certain target populations may be required.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to meet client needs.
