Job Summary
Performs entry level engineering work, typically under the guidance of more senior engineers.
*This is a 6 month position
Responsibilities
1. Performs engineering tasks to contribute to department projects such as designing, developing and implementing engineering systems, devices and/or equipment.
2. Prepares documentation recording project results and makes recommendations for resolving design or construction concerns.
3. Develops design protocols and manufacturing procedures including the selection, testing and evaluation of materials.
4. Tests and monitors equipment and engineering systems.
5. Maintains quality control in the manufacturing and engineering design of components and systems.
6. Provides design and creative guidance to University faculty and staff.
7. May train technicians and students in engineering techniques. May implement and coordinate a training program for facility users.
8. Assists in maintaining a safe and effective work environment.
9. Assembles budgets for reports or proposals.
Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Seldom: Hazards ( _includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals)._
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
Specific areas of expertise may be preferred by departments.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
