The Role
The Electromechanical Engineer 3 candidate will assist system owning engineers with the selection, application and implementation of Cyber-based security controls on various network systems , in particular Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E). This will include interpreting requirements for inclusion in purchase documents and specifications as well as assisting in validating those requirements. The candidate will also develop compliance and assessment reports for submission to NAVSEA.
Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
The role entails:
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
The ideal candidate will have:
DoD 8570 recognized certification (i.e., Security+, Network+, CCNA, etc.) preferred

- Applying engineering acumen for the analysis and documentation supporting the Cyber Accreditation & Authorization (A&A) activities.
- Acting as a liaison with governing agencies that oversee the accreditation process.
- Providing technical guidance to information system owners in evaluating security controls and requirements for HM&E systems.
- Knowledge of Industrial Control System (ICS) or HM&E system design theory.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with various teams.

- Experience with the systems engineering process, in particular development of functional requirements from general requirements
- Previous experience with RMF and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), including System Security Plan (SSP) and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) development
- Hands-on experience implementing security features on various network and computing technologies
- Hand's on experience with Industrial Control Systems (ICS), including assessment
- Hand's on experience with Navy shipboard systems, particularly HM&E
